Hi,
I was just wondering what support you have had from your co-ordinator to help you achieve good or outstanding? Have any of you not had any support and wish you had, if so what support would you have liked? On the other hand has anyone recieved lots of support, again in what form?
Sorry for all the questions, I am just wondering what support is being offered and if it varies alot depending on where you live for a presentation I am going to give next week about support leading upto inspections.
Thanks

I had no support - wasn't a member of the network @ the time & was yet to find the forum...as you can imagine - I was in a blind panic! I feel good about it now - cause I did it all by myself & am proud of myself for that...though if I could go back I would have found the forum faster LOL:D

Exactly the same here. I had no help at all, though I know I could have asked for support from the Early Years team if I'd wanted it. Trouble was, Ofsted phoned on the Friday & said they were coming the following week. If I hadn't had everything in place already I don't think all the help in the world would have made much difference!

If you could have support from a co-ordinator for your next inspection what kind of supprt would you want, extra training, personal one-2-one, reassurance, someone just to look over your paperwork? any other ideas?

TBH I have all the support I need here...I am lucky though our borough puts on a lot of training..((just would be nice if more of it was over the weekend rather than the weekdays over the other side of the county, so I can't attend!)...still at least they try...other area don't bother at all!

I think the reassurance that I was doing it right would have been nice.
I had my inspection in March, so had done 6 months of EYFS. It was all new & I didn't know if I was doing it right or not. I had my inspection without a clue as to whether or not I was on the right lines. Luckily I was!

I wanted someone to come out and do a moch inspection so if they found any gaps in things I should be doing/have I could work on that before my inspection. Im reality I got told SEF and LJs are wrong, bye.

Would you have prefered that your co-ordinator had gone through this with you at home or in the form of training? If you had small groups of childminders getting together (possibly with an outstanding childminder present) would it of helped to discuss your inspection, share info etc?
Prior to my inspection in April, I didn't feel that I had that much support, our co-ordinator was on her DHC (which I tutor) she was knowledgeable but just sometimes didn't seem to know what I was talking about when it came to some things, I am certainly not a know it all but she didn't really have anything to add, so for me it would have been handy to have a childminder who had achieved outstanding to chat to, or for her to provide literature, a list of tips or something, I know we can access that info on here as everyone is happy to share info, but what if a childminder isn't using this site?

I was pretty much the same as my inspection was early into EYFS. Since then I have had co-ordinators asking me how I do things as I still think they are a bit unsure themselves. I do think it would be useful to have a get-together with a few childminders who have had inspections. EYFS seems very scarey to start with when you don't know what you're doing , but to talk to childminders who are doing it successfully would take away some of the uncertainty.

Our co-ordinator holds childminders get together evenings to go through aspects of the eyfs. I did attend one earlier this year where she admitted that she thought what they were advising was wrong and were in the process of checking with ofsted. There were other things she was saying that I also thought were incorrect. My understanding of eyfs came from this forum and as I was doing things myself I was not confident enough to disagree with her and came away confused. I do know she will visit childminders to help them get through their inspection but as I thought she did not understand the eyfs herself then I believed this to be of no benefit to me and so continued to follow advice from this forum, thank goodness I did this.

You'd be surprised how many times I hear this!
If you are given information about something and it confuses you or you're not sure...
ASK...
Somebody here will know or find out for you :D

My coordinator came round once for about 10 minutes when I was newly registered not really very helpful. She left a couple of months later and still hasn't been replaced. I had a mentor who helped me with my paperwork, she was really helpful.

I have never had much support from anyone. This forum has been better than anything else.
My co-ordinator phone me the other week asking how my inspection had gone - it was in February!!!! I told her i got outstanding and she then quizzed me for about 20 mins about what i was doing. I should have just told her i was busy and put the phone down - but i am not that rude. Being naive and all that i presume she might pass the info to others who may benefit but i won't bet anything on it!
Am i being silly but i would have thought it sensible that Ofsted and Early Years departments could actually communicate with each other. They don't seem to have anything to do with each other at all!
