I had my inspection yesterday, at one point she was looking through my lo's diaries/planning journals and suggested that when 'S' did something (just happened to be one of the 8 EYFS children I have) I should write it down.
So I said 'why, I have him 2 days a week and see him doing it here, his parents have him for 5 days and see him doing it there, who am I writing it down for! Why should I sit up late writing all this down for each child, what is the point.
She sort of looked startled, said, 'oh I see your point, I don't really know! Hee Hee   I did enjoy that moment.
I made it quite clear what I thought of EYFS (a big waste of paper) and how it took my enjoyment out of childminding as I don't like writing while the children are here, have a very busy life and don't have time to writing silly observations on what nearly 100% children do as they develop anyway just at different ages and why label them.
Anyway she was very nice, said some lovley things about my setting and gave me all 'goods', though I was worried after I opened my big mouth.

Yeah well done you for speaking up.
That's what I think makes it all seem such a farce cos it really does depend on who your inspector is they all seem to look at different areas and what one inspector says is a must another has never hear of.
For instance a friend of mine bought a net to go around the bottom of her trampoline cos another mindee who had just been inspected said the inspector said it was a must. When my friend was inspected she asked what the net was for when my friend told her she said 'oh i've never heard of that'!!

Well done for speaking up, I think more people should question the reasons behind authority's rules when it's needed. Too many people back down through lack of confidence or the system's knowledge.
Also agree on the 'why label children' comment! ;)

At last someone with the balls to stand up to them!!! notice like me you were doing this job before a lot of these inspectors were out of nappies!!!! do I feel a rant coming on!sorry but it really grinds that everyone I know is moaning about all this and some of my closest friends have given up a long career rather than conform without saying why, if more of us stood up to the inspectors and took them to task maybe we would have more of a voice!
