Just a bit confused. I h3 aave a daughter who is 17 months and a son who is 3 and in full time school.
I have been registered to care for 2 children under 5 (In addition to my daughter) and 2 children over 5 (in addition to my son)
Is this right??? I can look after six children at the same time?
Thanks everyone

From my understanding of the Welsh standards, yes that's right...
But hopefully one of our Welsh members will come along soon.
If in doubt always give CSSIW a ring, they are very helpful :D

Gosh, how did you manage to get your 3 year old into full time school? My 3 year old will be out of my care from 9:15 until 3:15 in September but I am unable to count him as an over 5 until September 2010 when he starts reception class.
The standards allow you to care for 6 children under 8 at the same time. If your inspector has classed your 3 year old as over 5 then you will be able to have 2 more children in each of the age groups making 6 in total.

Hi
Yes if that is what your certificate says than that is right. The actual standard says "a child of any age attending 10 sessions of school" can be classed as 5 but Manjay was told that it only referred to over 4 year olds. I think different CSSIW areas are interpreting diffrently.
My local school (Carmarthenshire) takes them full-time from the start of the term they turn 4, so some will be 3 till the end of that term. Other schools only have one intake and so could be taking a child just turned 3 in Aug and starting them in Sept, as it is the school year they turn 4. Just over the border 3 miles, in Ceredigion, they start full-time the term after they turn 4.
You can care for 6 children at anyone time. You can have more than 6 (part-timers) on your books over the week as long as you do not go over that number at any time. You do not have to fill all the spaces immediately if you do not want to either.

Thanks for your replies everyone
My little boy will be 4 in August. My inspector told me that because he is in school full time he is classed as over 5.
