Hi All
After months of nothing I had an enquiry - only problem being that I would need a variation to go ahead with it.
I have 2 children of my own - 6 mths and 2 yrs. I look after 1 child (nearly 2 yrs old) on a Mon and Thurs. The enquiry is for a 13 mth old, all day on a Mon, Thurs and Fri.
Do you think there is a possibility of getting a variation for this - only that all of the people I have spoken to this about have only requested variations for a short period of time/ overlap/ or siblings - and this is none of these.
Any advice would be helpful.
Many Thanks
xx

I have had Variations for new children, I did get one last oct but it was only for 8 weeks. The one I have for four under fives two days was for continuety of care.
There is no harm in trying. I'm a great believer in the maxim- if you don't ask you don't get.

u can but ask, as far as I know a variation for 4 under 5s would only be considered if the child was already on your books and then their was an overlap. if mum wanted you you could agree to just a fri to begin with (could use this day to settle child) and then apply for the variation on the grounds of continuity iyswim
could be wrong and as ricky said if u dont ask u dont get, no harm in trying. let us know how u get on

Hi
You can but ask!
I was granted a variation for a new child (but only needed mine from March until September when one becomes an over 5)
When you write make sure you explain exactly when you will be over numbers so to speak and do some mini risk assessments for them to show how you are going to cope with the extra one i.e how are you going to feed them all - do you have enough highchairs, and also how you will be doing any outings - do you have a double buggy, how you will keep walkers safe etc etc. That sort of thing! Make sure you cover all areas of your setting.
Good luck!

I was declined a variation for a new child (4hrs overlap) as they said it didn't meet the criteria of continuity of care. I have two children of my own too and have only been registered 5mths and not had my grading inspection yet so that might have been to play with it. It doesn't hurt to ask though.

I think it's a lottery - depends where you live and which inspector picks it up.
No harm in asking though - make sure you put a good case forward.
Good luck
