It is a good idea to have it done, if you do it online dont submit it till you get 'the call' because it will be locked and u will be unable to update it, also it is a good idea to do it in word then copy & paste as a few people have lost their work using the site.
same for the paper form I would do it bit by bit updating when needed tbh, I am currently doing mine in chunks hopefully will finish it soon lol
sorry forgot to mention if you dont have it done when u get inspected you will still have to do it but on the day hence why u should have it done before,

The SEF is not compulsory but is supposed to help reduce the time of your inspection (not so with mine).
If you complete and submit you will have given yourselves targets and then you go back in and amend the SEF showing how you have completed these targets and set yourself more. It is not anticipated that this be done monthly just once a year unless you need to change it as stated above.
They are not locking people out (this was the first idea) at the moment so you can change things. You need to go in and open a new file and they will then give you options.
It is a good tool to ensure you evaluate your practice and this will only enhance the quality of care you offer.
