I know Ofsted have to be informed about any changes to a registered property, would anybody be able to tell me do they require plans with regard to an extension/conservatory and the procedure that follows.

Many thanks.

Tell them when the work is starting and when you hope it will be finished... send a risk assessment showing how you will safeguard all the children... tell them when it is finished and send a RA saying how you will use the new area etc... they might choose to visit.

When I had my conservatory I was not allowed to use it until I had a piece of paper in my hand from Ofsted saying that was ok.

Don't forget you also need to inform your insurance companies - house and childminding.

Same here.

I had a full two storey extension done to my house and just did as Sarah says. I didn't hear anything at all back from Ofsted about it and have been inspected since anyway. I had no option but to use the area without any documentation from them as would have been impossible not to.

All I done for my extension was write to Ofsted to inform them - included a risk assessment to show I was aware - kept risk assessments at each stage.
Like Penny I have no choice but to use it (its the new kitchen and dining room).
