Can you please clarify two points an ofsted inspector made:
1. You should be working towards the ELG's and not the EYFS
2. The 8 years olds in your care come under the Early years
register therefore you are overminding?
I would appreciate your input.

I am not really sure what you mean tbh...
Everything you do in your work is about the Eyfs... there are 16 principles, each of equal importance and you must meet each one. They are listed and talked about on the cards in your Eyfs pack.
One of the principles covers the 6 areas of learning and development... within these 6 areas there are ideas for what children might be achieving at different ages and stages - these are in the guidance notes of the Eyfs.
Within those ages and stages, children who are at full time school, in their reception year, are monitored by their teacher against a set of educational goals. The childminder is not usually expected to monitor this unless the child is with you full time, but you might be asked to input into the school's appraisals (according to the Eyfs, I've not seen it happen yet).
The Eyfs does not talk about ELGs (Early learning goals) as such, this was pre-Eyfs and relates to the Foundation Stage, which is now gone and incorporated into the Eyfs.
Does that answer your question?
As to the ratios, you are allowed 6 children under the age of 8. When they reach 8 they no longer count on your ratios for Ofsted purposes. Any 8 year olds in your own family can be taken off your certificate as well, so you can have more minded children.
You do, however, have to meet the statutory requirements of the Childcare Register in order to care for over 8s. Unless you have more children in your care over 8 than you are insured for, I cannot see how you are over-minding? Am I missing something?

Sorry Megan I don't understand either - can you explain a bit more?
Otherwise I think Sarah's given you a very good answer.

Sorry! A friend of mine had her inspection last week and was marked inadequate as she was not helping the child to reach the ELG's, when she said she was working towards the EYFS Ofsted asked what is EYFS??
She was also accused of having too many children on her Early years register even though 2 of the children were 8??????
We appear to have an more than obnoxious inspector.

Oh dear - your friend must be in pieces or fuming or both?
I think I'd advise her to contact NCMA (if she's a member) for advice.

She will have in writing what she needs to do, what exactly does it say because that doesn't make sense.
