I know in the town I live, Ofsted have been donig inspection 6 -10 months early, when this time last year they was running behind. Might be trying to get ahead of themselfs if they are handing over.

I expect if we have a new inspecting body, they will just employ all the original Ofsted officers and things will be just the same!

I seem to remember being told that inspections were goinng to be carried out by an external company, like they are for schools.

So, more than likely, the same inspectors but employed by another company instead of Ofsted.

I believe two things are happening but neither unfotunately mean the demise of Mrs Ofsted

Firstly the CIS web site is dissappearingand reforming under I think the Childrens, Schools and Families umberella and this is due to happen by September.

Secondly Ofsted is going to be sub contracting the Inspection work and so offering the work out to Tender-may the lowest bidder win. Do you think Childminding Help should put in a bid?

Someone earlier in the thread said Ofsted were 6mth ahead in their area? Well they are 10mths behind around here!!!!

Anyhow I hope that answers some of the queries.

From what I understand it's a company subcontracted by Ofsted to do the inspections, so it's still an Ofsted inspection, but done on their behalf (if that makes sense)

Well I never! Ofsted inspectors are obviously too busy with childminders.

oohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

new inspectors will be Pauline, sarah, deeb, angel, tatia and all other forum mods.

they will come as a team of 5-10 and will expect a cuppa and a bicky then each will go through your stuff pending on what they are best at ....

so sarah will go through polices
tatia will check all training records
pauline will check all eyfs
angel will sit and play with the toys and equipement
deeb will do antyhing left (sorry hunny i forgot which part of the forum to oversee)

then after an hour they will all leave after announcing outstanding becuase not only will they check everything but will adjust and tweak where needed ensuring we are the best cm's in the world.

then they will post in here a full report ... what we did what they did to tweak us and that we earned out outstanding

NOW these will not happen every 3 years, they will be yearly for us all and more often for some of us who need extra help.

so yes childminding help forum will be taking over all inspections for forum members only!

No mention specifically of childminders then....

I am a bit concerned that if it follows in the wake of other contracted out services that the government has arranged e.g. Prisoner transport, then it will be a minefield of problems.

Haven't there been enough changes? It seems like change for the sake of change - jobs for the boys......:panic:

I really don't think we will notice anything different about our inspections. The school inspections have been contracted out for a number of years now. I wonder how many of us knew that?

They will still be OFSTED inspectors doing the same job that is being done now, I think if we hadn't been told we wouldn't have noticed.:)

I agree. Like you say, not many people realise that it's an outside firm that does the school inspections. It's still an Ofsted inspection. It would be the same if the have a contractor to do the childminder inspections - you wouldn't really know. It would still be an Ofsted inspection, to the same standards, just carried out by someone who is employed by an outside firm.

I don't see that it's anything to panic about!

As far as I've been aware all ofsted inspectors are self employed and are or have been professionals in the areas they inspect ge. e.g. experienced/senior or ex primary teachers do primary schools - ex childcare workers do early years - senoir/ex lecturers/tutors do FE etc.etc. If the inspector is currently employed in their specialist field they take unpaid leave to carry out the inspections and are paid by ofsted instead - if they no longer work in the field and mainly do inspections then they have to do some CPD in the field in which they inspect ie our inspectors will have to do some voluntary hours working with children in an early years setting - its just like NVQ assessors. Then there are the real ofsted people who do the real ofsted work and work in offices creating more and more paperwork to keep themselves in jobs and then they decided that we need to create more and more paperwork to keep us busy - they don't understand that the world can actually function without everyone creating tonnes and tonnes of unnecessary paperwork. I have been given the above information by more than one ofsted inspector over the years depending on the area I've been working in.

In the old days when I first taught in schools we had HM schools inspectors and they were great - men in suits - usually 2 came together - safety in numbers and all that and they were only in for half a day to a day and they were lovely - they didn't do any writing while they were in your class room they just chatted to you and the children about the work they were doing and where it fitted into the curriculum - now they just sit at the back of the room and create more paperwork - how rude.

- As I always say the hint is in the Name Offce for Standards in Education - OFFICE what do people in offices do - created paperwork - No such thing as thinking outside the box - I have worked in offices I did 11 years in total in my lifetime so I do know.

When I think back SS weren't that bad after all either I loved my inspector when I last minded and she came to do my pre-reg this time - she also did the playgroup where my children went.

On the subject of the speed at which inspections are happening I heard that Ofsted wanted to get all minders inspected under EYFS sooner rather than later so that would mean that people like me who had their inspections just before EYFS can expect to have them in less than 3 years from the date of their last inspection - we'll see???? :panic: :panic: :panic:

I know there is this new regulation to do with CRB's and that look like it will be bringing in changes so maybe this is where people are getting confused - I read a booklet on it the other week and now need to re-read it because I can't remember what it said.

Andrea08
09-05-2009, 12:11 PM
Yes ,,, the CRB system is set for big changes so we only need one and it is reviewed every 2nd yr i think,,

as for Ofsted i too have heard that there will be a new body of inspectors and devided into areas of inspections,,, so cm's and nurserys wont be inspected by the same team,,

i think it could work out well for every1 as our inspectors will be trained in one field and it could be more "friendly" and personal??

its a case of watch this space and we will have to wait and see but i hope what ever system is put inplace we are not used as guinea pigs and get graded unfairly

Hi Don't know anything about Ofsted but have heard the ************* thing is changing too. They're going to have a national website with Ofsted grading and fee information on it for all childminders and nurseries to make it easier for parents to make comparisons.
