Do you have a Howarth Timber Builders merchant near you? Their play grade sand is under £4 for a 25kg bag. It was something like £3.74.

I told my Ofsted inspector that I don't use play sand as sand from the builders merchants makes much better sand castles, doesn't blow away, and I don't care if they throw it on the garden as it is cheap enough - she said that was fine.

It is the same sand as long as you ask for the right type, ie not the bright red stuff or sharp sand.

I am going to get my next lot of sand from Homebase as they do coloured play sand.

Here's the link:
http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Search?storeId=20001&catalogId=1500000701&langId=-1&searchTerms=play+sand

Me and another cm friend are going to buy one of each colour and split them between the two of us.
