I was just wondering as there has been a few threads on here lately about unregistered childminders....
What do Ofsted actually do if a person has been reported as being one?

i would like to presume that they arrive at the adress of the unreg minder to check for themselves and take action to ensure the cm quits or is rushed through the system but to be honest I've got absolutly no idea on what they really do in those circumstances.

I have no idea. Why don't you email them and ask? Do tell us all what they say!

I don't actually know. When it was Under 8's who inspected they would go and visit but not heard of anyone being visited by Ofsted.

To be honest, I don't think Ofsted do anything. If you are not registered they have not right to come into your home.
Your Local council Early Years team can send a letter saying that they shouldn't be minding if the person isn't registered, but even they're limited on what they can actually do.

The person is more likely to be picked up by the tax/benefits office for not declaring earnings.

They write to the person giving them an outline of the law and so many days to register or stop.

Ooooo - I bet that really scares them!!!

It does seem silly that ofsted can't do anything.

I suppose they'd take legal action as they are breaking the law!
