Hi, I have asked OFSTED to update my certificate as my child is now over one years old to say I can now mind a child under 1 again. They have sent it and I am finding it a bit confusing. It states that I can care for no more than 5 children under 8, so that seems to take into account my child as it would be 6 usually? 3 under 5, which doesn't take my child into account? 1 under 1which is right. I had asked if I could mind an extra child on my husbands day off as he would care for our son...but I dont know if they have allowed it or not? no definite wording so probably not. Do other peoples certificates say the same if you have 1 child under 5?
Thanks if you can clarify! otherwise I will give them a ring.

I think you will have to ring OFSTED. Normally the certificate would say 5 under 8 of which no more than 2 can be under 5 and no more than 1 under 1 if your child is under 5. I think that you would need to ring them to clarify and check that they haven't made a mistake (quite possible that they have mistyped)

Yes, Tulip thats what I thought it should say if they aren't letting me have an extra one on my husband's day off. It says in the letter with certificate under conditions, Must reduce the registered numbers of any children for whom you are responsible and who are present during the hours in which you childmind. ReasonsProvider may occasionally care for her son dring childminding hours. Does that mean my hubby can look after him? Why is their wording always confusing?? Thank you.

I think you have 2 choices here as I believe Ofsted have made a mistake
1. Tell them and go back to 2 under 5 and try for permission for when hubby is home
2. Don't tell them and work with 3 under 5 plus your own and you won't need permission when hubby is home

Even if they made the mistake they will expect you to only work within the rules. I woud ring them tomorrow to clarify this

Hi, I e-mailed OFSTED and they have clarified that I can now have 3 mindees under 5 on my husbands day off. Although on the certificate is does not specify a day so basically I suppose I can have an extra one any day he is here. So good news! If you don't ask you don' get!!!:clapping: Maybe others will be able to ask for this too, if you have husbands at home on set days? I have been minding a long time though, so I suppose that helps and have always had Good grading.:)
I had my inspection early because i needed a variation to use my upstairs rooms for naps, when inspector came said it was ok and it said so in my report, but when i got my new certificate it said i couldnt use the upstairs rooms???????
Was so relieved to have the visit over i havent had the energy to queery it yet suppose i should tho. i think its a case of one hand not knowing what the other is doing!
