:( :( Well I feel quite pee'd off really. In my opinion my childminding business is very well run. My paperwork is great and risk assessments, childrens safety etc is excellent.

But I got a satisfactory.

She said that because I'd only had children to mind for the last 3 weeks (6 working days) I was graded satisfactory because I'm new at this and obviously don't know everything.

One of the questions she asked me was 'how do you support your childrens learning and development' ---- I don't know what the question means even. I'm not thick far from it and I understand the obs and writing them up which leads onto forward planning. This is shown in the one obs I've done so far but because I'm new I am graded satisfactoy.

When I mentioned that I wasn't happy because I feel I've been down graded just because I couldn't get any business until recently she just said that's the way the sytem works and there is nothing she can do about it.

She also said if there was a section called ' commitment to childminding' I would have got a good/outstanding but there isn't a section called that?

Not sure how I'm feeling but I am disappointed.

I think it's great that you have passed!

The inspection process is blooming hard work and you have done a great job if you've only been working for 6 days! :clapping:

Be proud of yourself. :D

Just remember that a satisfactory means you are working to Ofsteds expectations (can someone put that into better words then I just did)

I think that is a brilliant result if you have only been working for such a short time. I was graded good the first time and the second time I was just relieved to have kept it (although some who know me from elsewhere may remember the drama of been given only 4 goods and it was the end of my world)

I am due this year and to be honest much as I would love to gain an outstanding I will not get that and just ope for a good again.

Just remember you could have been given an inspector like some where the inspector walks in the door and says I don't give Outstandings to childminders at least it sounds you like had a fair inspector

Not that any of that helps how you feel. Try to be positive and think that next time round you will have had three years to gain your outstanding

If you haven't got another inspection for 3 years and you feel that you have been penalised because of the lack of time minding then there is an appeal process which will be outlined with your report

It does seem unfair that you can't get anything more than satisfactory because your new!! Don't be too dissappointed though you and the parents and children know your great at your job!!!!!!:clapping:

Don't be too disappointed, It is so hard now. You may feel better when you actually read the report. Sometimes the grading doesn't always reflect what is actually said about you. If you are still not happy you can appeal. At least there is only one way to go next time! If she's right about your commitment and enthusiasm you could jump straight to Outstanding in 3 years :clapping:

A newly reg'd minder I support had a child on roll for 3 weeks - a total of 8 days, before her inspection and she gained a good in all areas.

just goes to show the unfairness of personal judgements doesn't it. I don't blame you for being pee'd of - think I would be too

but WELL DONE for getting satisfactory - you have done really well to get this far.:clapping:

Sorry you're feeling a bit fed up atm.

Wait until you get your report and see how it reads then decide if you want to take it further

Well done.:clapping: :clapping: The only way is up!!
You should be proud of yourself after such a short time. You might get checked again sooner than 3 years some people do in the earliest years.
Remember satisfactory isnt the bottom grade!!

I was gutted too when I only gained satisfactory.

I was only reg for 2 months and only had after school children other than my son so I was marked down as couldnt prove the care I give to under 5's. i was so upset i cried before the inspector left, she called me 2 days later to check up on me and we talked more on the phone.

I thought i was brilliant as still stuck in nursery ways of planning, she said i was but due to the age group of children she couldnt grade me on the care for under 5's ... fair enough then i got over it i passed and thats all that matters.

You have done well you passed too, I know its disappointing its like being told off and knocked down. Now you can work on the points she gave you and begine to build on them, my nursery planning is built in me and i still find it hard to stop thinking like a nursery nurse and think more like a childminder but I'm getting there. You will too ... so give yourself a pat on the back you ahve done well :clapping:

I got satisfactory when I had my inspection because I had only been minding for 2 weeks and she said 'most new childminders get satisfactory because they haven't got enough experience'

I was really peeved too because 3 yrs is a long time to wait for the next one.

As my son would say: the whole grading system 'sucks'

I always feel that I have to justify myself now to prospective parents if I show them my report.

They really have to make the grading system fairer.

Pants!!!
So what happened to a six month visit? At least this would give you time to settle in and get your systems up and running. If they phone and say they are going to visit can you say you have only been doing it for.....weeks and ask them to give you some time to have done enough with the children to show off your skills? If they ring me quickly I may try it and see what they say, they can only say no can't they? LOL Sleeping Baby

I know you must be gutted but you have done really well considering the time you have been minding, like others have said you could appeal if you feel so strongly about it :)

Hi, a few childminders in our area have also only got a satisfactory even though they are accreditied and had all the paper work and children in place. We appear to have cross wires as to what ofsted are looking for and as to what NCMA are telling us.
