Sorry, don't get chance to come on here much any more, or do anything else for that matter. I had the care commission officer from hell today:( She left me in tears and doubting that I can do this anymore.
The inspectors are so far behind that they are doing scaled down inspections. I had all my paperwork ready, had set up different activities for the kids, 5yrs, 21mths and 14mths and was ready to tackle the issue of training courses!
She came in after I had checked her ID, checked all certificates on the wall. I offered her coffee and sat children down for snack at the table. I put her coffee in a place that little hands can't reach - she prompty picked it up and put it on the floor in front of her:eek:
She was here for 80 mins and did not have one positive thing to say, I had too much "kit" (not all out at once), the children were slobbering over the toys, I had open baby wipes on the side, I had brought through a couple of nappies for the little ones so that they were at hand was told this was disgusting:eek:
She hardly interacted with the children and even turned away from the 14month old when he approached her. She didn't ask for evidence of observations or meeting the childs needs. Nor did she comment on how happy the children were. She left without agreeing on recommendations though she had a lot to say about how useless I was.
I have issues with the availability of training courses, I am not making excuses and would love to do them but the availability of courses at times that I can attend is scarce.
Anyway when my first parent came to pick up at lunch time I was in tears. The parents were astounded at the news and are very supportive, even went out of their way to get me flowers, chocolates and came back to reiterate their support. Am not sure whether to seek further advise or let the land lie until the report.
I am much calmer now that I have sounded off some.

Oh dear. You have had a horrid one havn't you. I think I would be reporting her if I were you. Imagine putting the hot drink on the floor!!! Imagine if you had done that :panic:
I hope that the report is better than you seem to think it will be. I recommend a large glass of wine and a relaxing lie down :)

I'm sorry you had such a bad time. I agree with Debbie I would phone tomorrow and explain how you felt and put it in writing. You are in your own home no one has the right to leave you in tears, she sounds very unprofessional and needs to have it pointed out to her.
Big hugs

Sorry to hear your inspection didn't go to well. The women sounds horrid! And to turn her back on the lo, that's awful! If we did that they would sharp have something to say. Report her.
totally agree with debbie and sonia ann
you should call them tomorrow and have your feelings noted
she has no right to make you feel like that
i hope you feel more positive tomorrow though

You know you can do the job... you're doing it well right now, every day.
How dare someone come in and behave like that? It's unprofessional and wrong and you have every right to complain.

What a horrible woman!!! Definitely agree with the others - phone them tomorrow and complain - a hot coffee cup on the floor with toddlers about:panic: the mind boggles.
You know you can do the job and its great that your parents were fantastic - at the end of the day their opinion matters the most and they obviously think you are fantastic.
Sending big hugs

Thank you all so much. I do feel much better. All of my parents are shocked that she reduced me to tears, I am usually very strong and can take critisism as long as it is constructive. I am going to phone care commission tomorrow and see what they say. My parents are also going to write in as a show of support. Their suggestion not mine.
I understand the need for paperwork and courses but I have never experienced such a lack of interest in the well being of the children before. She even had the cheek to compare my childcare set up to her home, saying that her sitting room was imaculate:eek: That would be because her children are in childcare all day and she is out at work- no one to make a mess at home. When I think about it she used her children as examples for a lot of things, cheeky mare.
here I'm on a rant again now:blush:

I do not blame you for getting so upset, this woman needs desciplining! How dare she come into your home and upset you.
She has not acted professionally-whereas you did!
Good luck, I hope you get reinspected and come out on top!

thats awful, i'm sorry you had such an awful person to inspect you.
like others ahve said get your appeal in, she was out of order to put a drink on the floor let alone ignore achild and as for the nappies ... all you did was ensure that you didnt have to leave a stranger with children or taken them all with you into what I presume would be a smaller area.
Have your parents write how they feel about your service too, dont accept a poor inspection from an unsatisfacotory inspector.
big hugs for you xxx

My first inspection left me feeling like i should complain, (a cm had previously complained about same person i found out 3 days before she came to me). I didn 't complain and when my report came i wished i had, although the report wasn't awful, she had been really two faced! Even to make yourself feel better i would complain, otherwise you will always wish you had and your report will be on the internet for a long time. best get in their first!
i would complain as well how dare she
she was well out of order.
i would make a list of the things you would like to complain about as if you are like me you forget and then when you put the phone down you remember them.

Scottish childminders are regulated by the Care Commission, the equivelant to Englands Ofsted. The inspectors are care commission officers:D

I agree whole heartedly with all the others. Do pick up the 'phone tomorrow and demand to talk to someone in a senior position. This behaviour sounds completely unacceptable.
I rang and complained about an inspector not showing up and the manager agreed with all I said and apologised profusely.
You have nothing to loose!
At the end of the day it's the opinions of your parents that really counts and it sounds like that they are more than pleases with your service.

i really think as others have said you should complain tomorrow - before your report comes out. how dare she make you feel like that!!! if you complain before the report is written it can't be put down to retaliation iykwim. i can't believe she put a hot drink on the floor :panic: and training courses are not the be all and end all - surely the fact that you are doing your job should be good enough. woman sounds like she got out of bed on the wrong side and you were in firing line, but thats not good enough when its your livlihood on the line so to speak!

You must put it in writing, stating the facts, the hot drink, turning away from the child etc .They will ask you to put it in writing when you phone anyway.
She was bullying you in your own home and should not be allowed to get away with it.
Make sure that you put in your letter that you are quite prepared to take this complaint to the highest level if you do not receive satisfaction.

I have put in a complaint to the care commission. I am quite willing to be reinspected by another cco. Will wait and see what the outcome is.I am still astounded that the inspection had little relevence to the needs of the child though!
In the mean time I would like to thank you for your support and advise. I also don't want to scare off new and potential minders out there. This is the first time in 6 years I have come across an inspector like this, my previous ones have been great. I am hoping that I will get a different inspector in future.

You know you are good at your job and your parents obviously know it too.
Sounds like a bad case of PMT!
Good luck, note everything when you think of it, stay calm and don't be talked into a corner.
Keep us posted.
I agree with everyone else, you have nothing to loose. Ring them and complain, make sure you put everything in writing too. You deserve better than that on your inspection.
just wanted to add my support, i'm sorry you had such a bad experience.
at least your parents know what a good job you do and appreciate you for it.
hope you get it sorted.

So many replies already but That is out of order!
Phone Ofsted and complain about her !! Tell them you felt she was very ignorant to the children, put your mindees at risk and was damn right rude!!
I would aslo ask for a re inspection!! You shouldnt have an inspection and be reduced to tears ... No one deserves to be treated like that !

I agree!!!!!!! I know Ofsted don't like tick lists, but I think this is exactly what they should have when doing inspections so that everyone is inspected the same way, not by an inspectors personal likes/dislikes!!!!

I totally agree, I said this to the Ofsted complaints investigator that visited me last week, I said what gives that woman the right to come into my home for 3 hrs out of 3 years and judge me - not taking into account the parents thoughts feeling or the childrens etc etc.

First of all I want to give you a massive {hug}
From what I have been hearing lately alot of childminders are having problems with their CCo's, they are way behind with their inspection and because they are under so much pressure they are taking it out on the likes of yourself.
I have to say it really does worry me as I have just started childminding and it scares me that one person's perception of me over a few hours could make or break my business:eek:
My CCO that did my pre-inspection was quite nice on the first visit and was then completely different on my 2nd visit, she was very nit picky with things on my policies i.e. I put we will wash our hands....instead of the children and I will wash our hands:rolleyes:
Follow through with your complaint and I hope you get your re-inspection where you can show yourself as the brilliant woman that you are!!
p.s Where in Scotland are you? I'm in Motherwell

My hubby had this on his pre reg I was appalled that an inspector could ignore a child

No inspector has a right to say this without backing up a comment like this and I doubt she could have - Complain!!!!

p.s Where in Scotland are you? I'm in Motherwell
I am about 12 miles from inverness.
I was speaking to the teacher at my daughters nursery, she has previously been an inspector. She said that a lot of cco's have no idea about early years education. They use the check lists because that is all they know. This teacher has brought the nursery, not a private one, to be a centre of excellance for early years education!
You would think with all the goings on with authority failings and children being hurt or worse, authorities would be making sure that the children seemed to feel secure and happy!
I really don't know what cco's are looking for anymore. I love my job, hate all the paperwork, I am not an admin assistant, but it has to be done I know.

CC complaints dept called me today. Very nice man said he had spoken to cco and went through her replies. Most shocking reply was that she had put her hot drink on the floor so it would be easier for her:eek: I explained that as this is a child care setting, it was unacceptable for her to do this and it was irrelevent as to whether it was easier for her or not when the priority is the safety of the children. If I had put the drink down she would have marked me down immediately.
I did say that I understand cco's are under pressure to meet deadlines at the moment, but this is not the problem of service providers. My main complaint was her dismissive attitude and the way she made herself out to be Mrs Perfect.
Very nice man has said he will speak to her line manager. He thanked me for my understanding attitude and for being staight to the point as it has made his job easier!
Will wait for draught report.

Complain straight away by phone and follow up in writing
Even if a childminder is awful (I'm not implying you are) there are ways of doing the job professionally
This sort of inspector makes me sick we all try so hard when they come out to inspect us, showing everything we do best and this behaviour is unacceptable
