Well after all the hassles of last week, an inspector really did make an appearance this morning!

The inspection went very well and the inspector was full of praises, especially my risk assessments and learning journals. However when it came to the gradings at the end she gave me good in all areas. Now I know I should be pleased with that and in a way I am. BUT I have worked really hard and I felt in some areas I deserved outstandings.

Obviously my disappointment must have shown because she asked why I didn't look happy. I explained how I felt and she replied that I was borderline outstanding in many areas. That I can accept. However when I asked how I could improve to achieve outstandings she replied that wasn't something she could answer! WHAT??!! All she could say was that she felt I fitted perfectly in the 'good box' but could not give me any guidance for improvement! Now how frustrating is that?!

She explained that all the reports are read by someone else and if there is not enough evidence to support a grade then it is thrown out, and another inspection organised! I got the impression that she was playing safe for herself!

My recommendation is that I further develop creativity!! She said she would keep it very general!!

I know I'll calm down in a few days and feel proud of the result, but at the moment I feel very deflated and think that a lot of my hard work has been for nothing.

Sorry for the ramble and being so negative! I'll buck up soon....promise!

Be proud of yourself, good is a fantastic grade too, and she did say you're better than good, there just isn't a grade in between:)

If you are better than good are you not Outstanding?

This really :censored: :censored: me off. You can be basically good and get a Good and you can be fantastically good and get a flipping Good.

I'm :censored: off for you..

GOOD is a great result, be proud of your achievements.

All this :censored: about not being able to tell you how to improve is :censored:

Sorry for all the swearing.

WELL DONE YOU:clapping:

Snap!! I felt exactly the same.
The Inspector I had said exactly the same, That she could not advise me on how to achieve a better grade, although she praised me and my practice.
I have worked so hard on my EYFS, felt I had wasted my time, whats the point in putting in the hard work when i get no recognition. :(
Maybe we had the same Inspector :)
I was inspected under the new standards in October.
Oh well.... must try harder.

Any way enough of me, Well done!!!! but I know how you feel:)

Thanks guys for all your words of support.
Am feeling a bit more upbeat today - think the sunny weather helps!

After I read my report I think that I might write a letter to OFSTED just pointing out that some more constructive advice for future improvements would have been appreciated. It's only once every 3 years or so that you actually have face to face contact with OFSTED (thank God!!) so it's a perfect opportunity to get some advice.

Don't be down about it - its a brilliant inspection by the sound of it. Just remember, your parents and kids are not bothered whether its good or outstanding - mine weren't. Good means you are doing more than you need to anyway so open the wine and celebrate - cheers!!!!

If you feel strongly that you deserve a better grade then object and have another inspection

We are always being told that good is great but if you had an unsatisfactory you would complain if you were not happy

Believe in yourself and if you think you are worth more, don't compromise and fight for it

Good luck with whatever you decide
