what do people do about siting the inspector? I only have two rooms downstairs - lounge which opens on to garden and kitchen. Obviously she will want to see my paperwork and watch me with the kitchen. i'm hoping it will be dry so i can have the children going between the lounge and garden. will she just watch me for a while and then look at paper work or will she do both at the same time?

i was thinking about putting all the paperwork in a plastic box so she can have it on the settee and watch/listen to me at the same time.

the trouble is if she sits in the kitchen she will only be able to hear me and also she'll be in the way during snack or lunch. i just hope the children leave her alone while she looks at my stuff!

i'll have two boys aged 14 mth and 15mth during the inspection. any ideas what i can put outside for them? i only have small decked area. was thinking tub of balls/scarves etc, ride on toys and maybe something cleanish in the messy tray? any ideas? they have all in one playsuits but i don't want to have loads to clear up or them to bring in messy stuff to the lounge!

Good idea to have all the stuff in a box to hand. Don't worry about the children leaving her alone, she is an inspector coming to a childcare setting - tough luck if they are curious about her. Put her where she can hear you or ask her would she like a quiet place to go through paperwork first then she could come through to you in the other room.

Make sure you ask for ID when you answer teh door, introduce her to the children and then get on with your day.

Have you got some chalk boards you could put out in the deck? What about making a den with an old sheet and putting some books out there?

Definitely in the bin - on collection days preferably!!!!!

Seriously, my inspector sat at the dining table where we did an acgtivity and had snack. Don't worry about them being away from you or the kids being round them as they ask the kids things anyway and my inspector just walked around on her own or followed me as i was dealing with the kids.
