Does anyone know the ratio for the under 1's in nurseries?

My enquiry came today and had originally looked at nurseries only 2 round here both with waiting lists so now she is seeing childminders. Its another one of those where they havent even asked work about going back part time yet

I just got me wondering what the ratio was in a nursery?

She also asked what I would do with her baby in the day, play? erm yes! and observe. I explained about going out, toddler groups, school runs, meals, etc

The ratio in nurseries used to be 1 nursery nurse to 3 children. Im fairly sure it still is.

Is that even in the baby room?

Yes it is. I did some supply work in nurseries and sometimes it was just me and the nursery nurse in their with up2 5 or 6 kids at a time. (Im not qualified as a nn) But kept getting left with kids on my own. Once had 4!!

So what about Early Years Units? (nursery and reception class combined)
The unit at our school has 50 plus kids in it ranging from rising 4s to 5yrs?
It has a qualified teacher, a Nursery Nurse, And other staff I know that have a qualification of some kind, the odd student and parent helpers in therefor an hour or two.
