I want to make some animal costumes as the kids are very into dressing up as animals at the moment.

I can't find any patterns on the internet though.

Best place would be to get a dress making pattern perhaps McCalls or simular one. Sorry thats they only place I know who would have them apart from going to the library and looking in there at dressmaking books!!!
