I have my first inspection next week, but im really worried i have not done enough planning.

I have my year plan, which includes a topic for each month and notable dates and celebrations. Then i have a spider diagram for each main topic and the big secondary topics (chineses new year, easter, etc). And thats it.

I always make sure i do lots of creative activities, physical activities, i enclude knowledge and understandiing of the world in all topics, and numbers and numeracy, and w always find books on the topics, but im just sooooo rubbish at putting it all into words in the form of detailed written plans.

I struggle reading and understanding what i have read, and even the smallest thing takes ages to sink in, and even then im not sure.

When i did my briefings i was part of the last group to have briefings on the old standards, and my pre reg inspection was also on the old standards. I really have had nothing about the EYFS aprt form the guidance pack and i dont have my training until the end of March.

Im just so worried that this isnt enough. Its getting me really down. I know its an important thing and would hate be marked inadequate.

Any advice please ? I dont want to say that i struggle reading and understanding as i dont want the inspector to think its just an excuse for me not doing detailed plans.

I cant talk to my DH as he ust says ill be fine and im brilliant at what i do, but he doesnt understand the pressure im feeling.

Dont worry, I had my inspection this week, really short notice ( 1 hour), she hardly looked at my planning, but she loved my learning journeys and said that she could see from them that i understood the EYFS.
What she did say was that she knows that it is good to have a plan, but all we really need to do is just every day normal things with the children, and document them.
My inspector was lovely, but they are all different and have differing opinions, which is a shame.
She awarded me outstanding in several areas with an overall Good.
I am really pleased with the result, and believe me my planning, risk assessments etc are basic, cos I hate paperwork.
Goodluck, I am sure you will be fine.

Im please for you. My paperwork in the way of policies, procedures and risk assessments are really good as im so paranoid about a child getting hurt (they took me 6 months to do).

I only have one mindee who i have for 12 hours a week after school. So even her leaning journey doesn have much in. Iv only had her since christmas.

hi, just had my first inspection i started about the same time as you so had the same problems and worries. i found that as long as you show you are making a start on planning and observations its ok, you cant be expected to be 100per cent on something you havnt been trained for, but you can show you are thinking about it and trying to find the best system for you, ie taking photos and doing a little written caption underneath and dating it, stating which areas it covers. Dont get yourself in a state its not as bad as what you think it will be. I found this site to be a great help. It will soon be over and you will wonder what you worried about. good luck

Your long term planning sounds good... you've thought it through and got lots of ideas for each month.

Short term planning starts from your observations... what the child does and doesn't enjoy, how the child learns, what the child wants to do, what parents say the child enjoys doing at home.

The best thing you can do is make notes (it does not have to be an essay - a note is enough) answering all the points I've just made...

How does xxx learn?

What does xxx say she wants to do?

What do xxx's parents say she likes at home?

What does xxx enjoy doing when observed?

Put it in a big spider format in the front of the child's file.

Then think about your obs - the photos you have taken and the things you ahve linked to the EYFS...

The EYFS grids will tell you what to plan next, following her interests as you've noted them.

This will show Ofsted that even though the child is new, you have thought through how you will challenge her learning and you have got to know her really well already.

Hth :D

As long as you have been through the Statutory Guidance book included in the EYFS and put all the legal requirement data in your policies you will be fine.

The inspectors will come and give you guidance too.

Relax and enjoy until they come.

Just want to say GOOD LUCK. There is so much advice here for you.

In my area all the inspectors are telling us childminders.....KEEP IT SIMPLE WE ARE CHILDMINDERS, NOT NURSERIES.......

But guess that depends on area and inspector.....Enjoy your weekend, with all your planning you wont get an unsatisfactory!!!

Good luck....Look forward to seeing the result!!
