Hi. Just wondering if anybody is registered for overnight care?
If so
1. What are the requirements?
2. How long does it take Ofsted to grant this?
Can't seem to find the information I want on their website or in my own books at home.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been registered for overnight for about 4 years. I don't know if its the same now but i just wrote to Ofsted and i just had to have a medical report (which is now mandatory for general minding anyway). When i had my last inspection i had to show that the child had separate bedding, towels etc and show where they would be sleeping. You also need a smoke detector in the room that you will be using.
You don't necessarily need a separate room - the child i mind shared a room with my youngest daughter until about a year ago. My daughter now sleeps in my room on a put up bed if i am minding overnight or shares with her older sister if its not a school night.
Hope this helps

Hi and thanks again for all your help.
Do you charge a set rate for a set time slot eg 8pm - 8am or hourly rate?
Havent slept well last night for thinking about it!!:panic:

I think it may also depend on where you live.
The last I heard in Hertfordshire we have to have the Fire Brigade round to do checks. I think that there only a handful of childminders here granted overnight care.
Good Luck
i said to my inspector... i know i need a fire brigade check
she looked at me with a blank expression on her face
she granted me overnight care for 2, with no further checks to be done, and i don't have a smoke alarm in the room either so i guess it depends on the area AND your inspector cos they all seem to do things differently
