Hi Everyone
I am a newly registered childminder and new to the forum, as from today.
I would like to ask some advice..I am not exactly sure what my Certificate of Registration Means..
"may care for no more than 4 children under 8 years; of these no more than 2 may be in the early years group, and of these, none may be under 1 year at any one time (Early Years Register, Compulsory part of The Childcare Register)"
My questions are..does this include my own children? and can I not care for any children under the age of 1, or just 1 under the age of 1?
I would really appreciate you help in this matter.

THE NUMBERS ON YOUR CERTIFICATE ARE THOSE THAT YOU CAN CARE FOR ASWELL AS YOUR OWN.
SO YOU CAN HAVE 4 CHILDREN UNDER 8 BUT ONLY 2 CAN BE UNDER 5 AND ONLY 1 OF THE 2 UNDER 5 MAY BE UNDER 1.
HOPE THIS HELPS THE WAY THAT OFSTED WORD THINGS CAN BE REALLY CONFUSING.
WELCOME TO THE FORUM.
JO
sorry miss read

Your children are seperate from the certificate. the certificate shows the amount of minded children you can care for. So you can look after 4 children under 8 at anyone time (not including your own kiddies)
Yes your certificate does say that you can not care for any children under 1 year - is that because you have a child of your own who is under 12 months old?

Hi and welcome Mrs M!
right you can have (and these numbers will have taken into consideration your own children already - so for example I am premsuming that you have a baby under the age of 1yr? and one child already in the 5-8yr old bracket)
you can take on (role) 4 children under 8 in total
no under 1's
[COLOR="Red"]2 children x 1-5yrs (remember if a 4yr old is at full time school 10 sessions then they are classed as 5yrs old)
2 x 5-8yr olds

Thanks for all your advice! I have a daughter aged 10 months. Do you think that once she turns 1, I will be able to write to Ofsted to have this changed on my cert? Has anyone else had experience of this? Its just that I have had an offer of a little boy, who will be 7 months, to start in June..!

Hi and welcome!
Yes as soon as your little one turns 1, you can write and tell them and they will send out an amended certificate.
