Are we still required to follow the national Standards i have been told that if you ask for a variation OFSTED come to measure your floor space as stated in the national standards each child under 2 requires 3.5 square mtrs and 3+ needs 2.3 sq mtrs. Is this true? :panic:
Would this floor space only been avaliable floor space and not including your furniture my lounge is only small. :panic:

I'm no expert in this, as never had a variation request, but I would think it a bit extreme to actually measure your room and if they did it would have to include the furniture, I believe they don't count cupboards/kitchens and bathrooms. I think variations mainly go on continuity of care, if need the extra space in order to care for a sibling this is more likely to be granted however like you said if you don't have the space for another child then that would be an issue.
Hopefully someone will a bit more knowledge will come along soon.

The National Standards do not exist any more.
There are rules for floor space in the Eyfs which you will need to read.
There's more to it than how much floor you have though - you also need to show you can care for all the chidlren's needs :D

Thankyou it is for continuity of care so fingers crossed it should be ok.
