not at all. my sister also had depression, and then pnd a few years later and she's a childminder now, has been for about 3-4 years i think.
they can't discriminate you about past health problems, although depression is still quite a tabo subject i guess.

I suffered from pnd after the birth of my son in 1999, when I registered as a childminder in 2005 I had to get a report from the Dr to state that I was fit to do the job (everyone has to get this to enable them to register). My Dr was happy that the pnd wouldn't affect my ability to be a childminder and he was right!

no i suffered PND and came through the other side (this was 8 years ago). it will be checked with your doc - on your health forms that he/she thinks you are ok etc.

One of my fave subjects!!! I'm 56 and have had depression for about 12 years now for one reason or another. I re-registered in 2007 after 6 years caring for my husband and someone at Ofsted told me I can't be a childminder when I'm on anti-depressants so I was weaned off them and it made me really ill and I had a bad 6 months. I rang to resign and explained why and someone else told me that I can work whilst taking anti-depressants, I just have to have a letter from my doctor saying that I'm ok to care for children. So I take them now and I'm a childminder but having to come off them because of what one person told me, I'm on double the dose now I was on before.
You have of course to pay for a letter from your GP but I personally think it's worth having him or her write it down and then you have it. You might also want to see what Ofsted say first.

yes you can be a childminder as my sister rightly saidcause i had it three times and i am a childminder working helps to just don't take on to much at once it is a demanding but very enjoyable job with lots of satisfaction. i am just about to have my second ofsted inspection and that will be something that might trigger my depression to come back but i will prepare and then the rest is fate on the day and i have done everything that my job require and the inspector told me what ever is wrong !!!!! then we can fix it she sounds very nice and willing to help me not someone who is looking for faults and to put me out of a job like some people make them out to be.

i suffered with post traumatic stress and depression litterally months before i registered - told the inspector straight and said i wouldn't be applying if i didn' think i was able to do the job safely.
DR was fine with me working and the inspector said because i'd been honest and raised it myself BEFORE sending off the medical form it would look good for me. and yes, i'm registered! :D
