i'm thinking about becoming a childminder. when it comes to the home visit, what will they be looking for?? my home needs repairs such as stairs plastering & carpeting. does this matter?? does my upstairs get checked?? i have a dog, does this matter?? daft questions i know but need to know what to expect.

cheers, tina

so long as you can tell them what you will do to make your house safe for children they will be fine about it and action it so long as you do these thing before you have little ones you will be fine and you only have to have the rooms you are minding in safe.

try this do a risk assesment of your house.

walk in you r front door and look at it from a childs point of veiw and go though the house as if you were a child and see if there is anything that is not safe or secure or could be of a danger to you if you were a child.
when you done this you will know what you need to do and then you can write that down to tell ofsted.

i would post my copy but my puter crashed and burned last week and i lost everything so i have to do it all again if i find it i will post it for you

Hi

The dog shouldn't matter (I have 1, have had for years) but you have to show that you can keep your mindees safe from the dog(never leave them alone, pick up dog mess, worm, flea, vaccinations etc).

They do check the house for safety and suitability. You may be given a list of things that need to be done before registration OR you may be told everything is fine. My whole house has always been inspected even if I have not registered those rooms. They need to ensure that your home is a safe environment for children to be in.

i have only had the rooms to be registered inspected, so if the children didnt need to go upstairs and you have a downstairs loo then maybe depending on the inspector your stairs would be ok if children have no acess to them

they come out to see if you and the hosue is suitable hun.

they may mention the things you have but as long as you state they are being done (or try get done b4 pre reg inspection) you be ok (i had few things that inspector mentioned and had sort)

pets dont matter as long as no threat to anyone

they will cheack the whole house and garden/s (for drugs, dangerous items etc etc)
