Ive not used rubber gloves myself, when changing nappies. I wash my hands before and after. If Im really stuck I always have a bottle of antibacterial hand gel.
I noticed at my local childminding group that a couple of the childminders use rubber gloves when changing nappies.
I was wondering what everyone else does? wouldnt you need a set of gloves for every child you changed bums.
Is it something Ofsted would prefer?
Views please

This is an old chestnut!
Some inspectors seem to like gloves - some even ask for disposable aprons... I know in Scotland you have to use both!
Personally I wear gloves for messy bums and cleaning up nasty stuff - otherwise I am the same as you... wash hands or antibacterial hand wash.

im allergic to those gloves, so i have to buy special ones which cost a fortune but ofsted do like them they say it keeps germs between kids to a minimum and you would have to cut your nails very short

I do the same as Sarah and use gloves for messy bums. I heard on the grapevine that Ofsted are very keen for childminders in my area to use gloves for no.1s and no.2s.

I was told on our ICP course that you have to wear a disposable apron and gloves, but the gloves have to be non-allegenic. I suppose it is different in different counties?

Gloves, gloves, gloves!!!!! Which do you go for? :panic: Vinyl so there would be no possibility of an allergic reaction to latex?
sarah707
21-01-2008, 09:44 PM
i can't wear latex - my hands start to sweat just taking them out of the box - I buy vinyl but they never fit very well... this site is good as it has a fitting chart on the page when you order... will def try it later x:D
i do not wear gloves or an apron
i do wipe the mat with antibacterial wipes before and after every change though.

I always use disposable gloves for changing wet or dirty nappies i always buy them in bulk and have them delivered its cheaper to do it this way.
My helper wont wear them but its personal use i cant force her but i feel it is more hygenic
