I know I should probably post this in the training section but i thought i'd get more replies here!! ;)
i'd like to start to progress to an NVQ level 2 and then go further... but i don't know where to start/who to contact.
Can anyone give me an idea of what i need to have done/be doing, what it's gonna cost me, and how much time it will take up??

very grateful for any advice ( this is my ticket to moving somewhere hotter in a few years!)

I spoke to my development lady - she then put me in touch with tye workforse development force.

I guess you can always ring your local college though - they will let you know the progress & probably how you could get funding. Or are you on a network? Your network co-ordinator will let you know what to do aswell x

thanks, i dug out my 'welcome to childminding' booklet and discovered that the local college courses all started in september! Doh! So my next question is can I get funding for the National Extension College course??? Not essential if I can't as i'll probably still do it on the installments, but it will be over a quarter of my monthly wage!! :mad:

I am doing mine home based through the local college. It didn't matter that way when the course was running.

I have an assessor who come to my house & does observations & asks questions on all the areas & then leaves me with tonns of homework :laughing:

I know train to gain do funding - as they were at one stage going to fund my course in full until they found out I had to many GCSE's :rolleyes:

Oh, I'll give them a ring on monday and see what they say - i didn't know you could do home based through the college.
I've got 12 GCSE's and 3 A-Levels so I don't think train to gain would fund me either!! ;)

Good luck Anna - not sure why you want to do NVQ2 childminding is a level 3 job so you should be able to do that.

With those GCSEs and A levels they should let you straight onto NVQ3:) . My friend wanted to do level 3 but was told that as she only had 2 GCSEs she needed to do 2 first.

Yeah I am doing level 3 - so i'm guessing you'll be doing the same :)

You should do the Nvq 3 not 2.
I started mine sept 08, its quite tough but we are doing everything that they want to see.
Enquire at your local college about nvq 3, we had a new girl start last week, shes only missed 4 sessions.

i'm going to give my council a call today and see if i can get NEC funding, i'd rather do it from home so i don't have to leave george of a night, he doesn't settle to sleep without me.

if you get working families tax credits then you will get onto your course for free;)

I just called one of my local colleges. I have a very lovely assessor who comes out to see me every few weeks and I don't have to go to college at all. I haven't paid anything for mine but funding is different in Wales.

I am just finished mine folder handed in everything signed off just waiting for internal marking now. I got mine funded through our cis and I didnt have any gcse's went straight onto NVQ 3 no bother, only attended college once a week (7pm-9pm) for 6mths and rest was done from home observations etc . This year there is no funding available and its costing others £800 but can b paid in instalments,

:clapping: our workforce development lady replied to my e-mail yesterday, said that they would fund 100% of the NEC course (about £500 worth) but only when I had been a CM for 6 months, so I can start at the end of January. In the mean time I am going to be doing an Advanced German Course with the OU - I know i'm absolutely barking and I still haven't read thru my EYFS book, but thats what half term is for!! lol
