Ok had stringy mum now saying she might need some extra cover for a couple of hours and to facilitate he I would need a variation to cover it. I have an assistant starting 3 afternoons a week to help out anyway and wondered what I would have to send to the powers that be to request a vatiation.

I know I need to send a matrix showing what children attend and when plus I need to send a rational to show what how I will manage all these children so what more do I need to do and any suggestions what I need to say?

Was thinking along the lines of

1) no longer have an under 1 on that day
2) will have an extra pair of hands
3) live in a larger than average home with plenty of room - could give the measurements of the DS rooms.
4) children will be sitting eating for about 30 minutes of the time.
5) in term time it will be for 1.5 hrs 2 days per week max.
6) the older children will be having quick snack when they arrive in from school and assistant could take control of one activity say working with children preparing tea and I could be working with others in the play room or vice versa also R&M can be collected by 4.45 some days.
This new assistant has 3 current enhanced CRB checks and has Full 12 hr 1st aid, food hygiene, Safeguarding children and is level 2 NVQ and 1 unit left on Level 3 to complete plus is currently working in Leisure Centre Creche in the mornings and has worked full time in a local nursery plus worked part time at the nosey auld bags PG where R goes. - should I give all this detail?

What else could I include for it to go in my favour and how long does it take to find out?

Do I need to put in anything about myself like past experience in childcare as I've only been minding for over a year this time round? All ideas and help gratefully apprciated.

I was lucky when I asked for help some members pm'd me variation letters they'd written.

If you pm me your e-mail I'll forward the one I wrote.

I got lots of different answers from Ofsted on how long it would take to sort out so my advice would be to leave as much time as possible and also to send by recorded delivery so you can prove when it got there.

Really? Do you think so? - Well what about

Works full time at PG wher R goes where one of the elderley boss ladies was earwigging on a conversation between another minder and me which had nothing to do with minding but she obviously missed out on part of it and so to fill the gaps she took the other minder to one side later and asked her what we were talking about and said it was her responsibility to know as under keeping children safe of ECM she needs to know that R is safe in my care

Do you think this has a better ring to it????

- I'm not bitter and twisted or anything.

I take it that you assistant has been approved by Ofsted and that you have purchased your insurance to cover this person? Both need to be in place before you can use an Assistant.

If you speak to Ofsted and ask for your numbers to be changed when you have an assisant, they should change your certificate and then you can pick and choose when and how many you have without asking for permission each time.

Yes I have one assistant already approved and the other is in the process but when the approval for the 1st one came through they didn't change my numbers. Although I am having 2 assistants approved I will only ever have one here at a time to fit in with other committments in their lives and I think 2 assistants plus me might prove to be way too many adults at once - we'd be tripping over each other - I hadn't realised that if you had an assistant then there was a possibility to have your pre-school numbers increased without having to apply for a variation.

Is it fairly run of the mill then?

Yes they are pretty good at giving these but you have to ask - they don't offer.
