Well, Hubby had his first inspection today, and it was the same inspector that did mine. She Obviously looked at both of us, and talked to both of us about the report, and her views etc, which was nice.
I know it wasn't mine, but it's still my setting, so his grade is my grade too really!
She gave Outstanding in Safety & Good in all the others. She said it's borderline outstanding, which was nice - but really not sure how much more we can do...
She said this was the first inspection she had done where the SEF had been submitted. Others had said they'd looked at it, and not known where to start!
She said we were the best setting she'd been to for Creative development, and she could see the kids were happy, and loved being with us (well hubby as it's his.) The kids jumped on him, and got him to join in with games & dancing, and she could see it was normal.
Just to let you know, she mentioned the Complaints form. She said the form I had was from the National Standards, but it wasn't a problem, & wouldn't even be mentioned in the report. I said as there wasn't a new one in the EYFS framework, I just left it. Asked her where the new one was, and she said she didn't know - she didn't think there was one!!
Also, doesn't apply to us any more, as Hubby's not an assistant, but registered himself, that assistants can't be left in sole charge any longer, under the EYFS. So anyone who has assistant - be aware this has now changed.
She liked the planning & obs, (Especially the Bromley 0-3ys daily diary & obs books), and said she had seen them on a training course, and was interested to see how they worked in practice. Very well I must add, and easy to do!
She said the report will read really nicely, and will be written as a good - outstanding report. Really liked what she saw.
The only improvement is 'To continue to work in partnership with other settings'. She said we need to share our planning & obs more, to ensure we're all working towards the same goals.
Overall happy, and glad it's done & dusted - well, until mine in about 18 months. That's the only problem, we'll get inspected about every 18 mths - 2 yrs being both of us. We'll never be done together! Never mind - keeps us on our toes. She said she'll prob be the one that comes back, so it'll be nice & easy for her.

She said to me that they can't any more. And if I knew anyone who was working with an assistant to make them aware. Apparantly it changed as of 1st Sept. I never got anything about it, and hubby is still listed as my assistant on my certificate. There are new certificates being sent to everyone though, under the new EYFS rules.

Well done and thank you for the information
The Ofsted helpline said that assistants could be left in charge if I had written permission
Off to the drawing board with this one again

Congratulations to hubby and of course you - you have both obbviously worked hard and deserve a lovely report.
Are you going to be competative and go for outstanding overall when it's time for yours - you should walk it. :)
Thanks for giving us all the information, very helpful.

Of course I am!!! After all - it was my business forst - he just 'came into partnership with me' ;)
The inspector said though that was the nice thing. What he got picked up on - I can rectify for mine. And as she said it'll prob be her again, as she's just come back to this area, she already knows us, and how we work etc, being here twice before!

In the letter Ofsted sent out recently - Requirements for the Childcare Register
Under the section "Welfare of the children being cared for" it says
"Childminders and home childcarers must ensure that they are present on the premises at all times when childcare is being provided" This applies to both parts of the register (Ref CR1.6)
That reads to me that an assistant can't be left in sole charge.

That's fine. It's what the forums about! Just letting you all know what the inspector told us, and in my experience, the inspectors know WAY more than the call centre staff!
So glad hubby's not my assistant any more - that's all I can say now!

The above somes it up, an assistant can only be left in sole care if it is stated on the certificate and you have written permission from the parents, and that clause only applys to the early years register (0-5s). for 5-8's you may never leave an assistant in sole care of a child.

yes thats right- i was told this today on my inspection! at first she said it was the older ones the assistant could be left with but then a more senior inspector who was also here said it was the younger ones they could be left with-dont understand the reasoning behind that at all
