Hi
I got a letter today from OFSTED re registration under the Children Act 2006 saying they had recently sent a leaflet that contained errors and therefore were re-issuing it. The letter states all the things we must do and one of the points was information that must be provided to parents and one of the things was:-
Childminders and home childcarers must make the following information available to parents:-
information about the registration system for the voluntary part of the Childcare Register ..... what do I need to do to show this? sorry if I am being really thick.:(

Thanks for any advice. Shelley

If you are registered then it doesn't apply to you - its for childminders who only look after over 8 year olds and who don't need to register but can put their names on the volunteer register. - I don't know much about it begause it doesn't apply to me so I've never really had time to look into it properly - too much else to get sorted.

Thats good - saves me readying yet another leaflet.

I received a parent poster from Ofsted giving information about the registers on it. Its green with two children playing on the floor with a toy on it and gives information about the different registers for parents information, that might be what they mean.

Hi all

No its not the poster. It is a letter that says - We recently wrote to you to tell you about how your registration with OFSTED would continue from September 2008 following the changes arising from the Childcare Act 2006. Unfortunately, it appears that you were sent a leaflet with that letter which contained some errors. We are therefore reissuing the leaflet. Please read it carefully and destrop the copy we previously sent you. The key corrections to the leaflet are:- (don't even know which leaflet was - been sent so much recently)
it then goes on to list such as that childminders etc should not smoke near children, must undertake risk assessments etc. It is 5 pages long and covers both voluntary and compulsory register. On it is this section headed Providing Info To Parents - it says about make OFSTEDs address available to parents, info on activites the children will undertake, copies of written statements of safeguarding procedures and complaints and ..... info about the registration system for the voluntary part of the Childcare register????

Sorry if I am making something that is really simple, complicated??? I have tried to find on OFSTED website but no success. Thanks for help.

I suggest you email all that to Ofsted and if they give you a sensible answer, please let us all know!

Dont be sorry and if you do not understand something everyone is always happy to help

I would do what Sarah suggested and contact them - that way you should hopefully get a informative reply to your questions

If you have all the information mentiond on the form in writing for parents to see then you eg parent information leaflet/booklet, Complaints and Safeguarding Policies and proceedures etc and you are registered then you are doing everything right and you can forget the voluntary part as I said before that is for those who only look after over 8's and are not required to register.

Hi

For anyone who is interested ..... I spoke to OFSTED and they said I have to keep this letter to show to parents if they enquire about new registers until new registration certificate comes out detailing which register we are on etc. So nothing to panic about ... sorry if I got anyone confused. I do get sick of all these mailings coming out ........

I got this letter from Ofsted yesterday and it says

"Childminders and home childcarers must make the following information available to parents:
information about the registration system for the voluntary part of the
childcare register

Ofted's address"

So I think the leaflet that Sarahnev attached is what we need to have to show parents.

There were no other details about the voluntary part of the register in the letter.
