yes, so they can start the inspection ball rolling.

I didn't.

I think I would probably have gotten into trouble when I applied for the variation if you were supposed to and I hadn't - as it was they just granted the variation, so I'm going to go with katickles and say no need to tell them, just enjoy it.

I doubt you would get in trouble, but they wont plan for the initial inspection if you are not minding any children, to notify them you have mindees means they can start that process.

Before having an inspection, ofsted call you first to see if you have & how many children are on your books :)

indeed they do, but if you have none at that time, informing them means you can get past the dreaded first inspection rather than waiting x months for them to decide to call you again. plus having a good inspection report as early as possible always helps attract more business!

Ofsted are supposed to ring you within the first 6 month's of registering to see if you are working. I didn't hear from them for over a year after registering which my support childminder was very shocked at! After having worked for 4 or 5 month's i then rang them and it still took them 2 month's to get round to inspecting. So just get to know the child/children first and if you havent heard from them after a while then give them a ring, but if you want the inspection over with as soon as possible then give them a ring sometime soon.

If you don't have any children on your books when they ring about your first inspection they call again about 6 months later (in theory!) if you still don't have any children as far as i'm aware they can grade you as satisfactory at most & this would be based on your setting, p&p's & talking to you.
