Hi all

I just wanted to let you all know my news regarding my ofsted inspection which was done on the 16 April this year because this may help others with theirs.

I was quite happy with my overall grading of "Good" but was disappointed with the staying safe section which I only got Satisfactory because of a child protection question which I apparently got wrong.

The inspector asked my what I would do if I had any Child Protection concerns. I answered her by saying it would depend on the concern but I would probably go to my network co-ordinator for advice. The inspector immediately pounced on me saying that I should never do that as to do so would be breaking confidentiality and I should go straight to the Local Safeguarding Children Board.

As a result my inspection report didn't look too good with 2 Outstandings, 2 Goods and 1 Satisfactory.

I raised my concerns with my network co-ordinator as she was the person who had given me those procedures and she was adamant that I was following the correct procedures.

She enquired directly with the Local Safeguarding Children Board and they acknowledged that I was acting correctly also.

With this knowledge she then approached a manager at Ofsted and he also agreed that I was acting correctly.

I finally sent a letter off - 4 months after my inspection, for the grading to be upgraded to a good and they have upheld my complaint.

Sorry for the long thread but for those of you wondering whether it is a good idea to complain to Ofsted, then I would say definately!

Their complaints procedure states that they only look at complaints up to 30 days after the publishing of the inspection, but I did it 4 months after and they have still upheld it.

I'm so pleased and wanted to share this with you. Well done to those who read to the end!!!

I have to say that they were really good about it and the inspector that was appointed to look at my complaint was really nice and asked me if the new wording they were going to use was ok by me.

I didn't know if I was going to be opening up a can of worms by doing it, but the whole process was quite smooth especially with the help of my network co-ordinator.

Well done you.

I think more childminders should do the same. I was given some advice once when I was told "they are not your employers" and now I look at Ofsted differently

Good for you Marie I'm glad you got it sorted and that you had support to do it.

Frankly if Ofsted were wrong then it shouldn't matter when complaint is made they should put things right - which they have done here

well done marie what brilliant news chalk one up for the childminders team:clapping: :clapping: .maybe ofsted will stop treating us like complete morons and realise that we do know how to do our job (obviously better than they do)

Well done to you :)

I think more of us should do what you did. During my last inspection the Ofsted Inspector said to me, these were her exact words, "I'm bordering whether or not to give you an 'Outstanding' but as you haven't taken the children to a Mosque I'm going to have to give you a 'Good'. I was shocked and very disappointed but I didn't question it.
