Hello everyone. I was just wondering, what do I have to do to be covered to use my car for childminding purposes? At my initial inspection, back in July this year, I wasn't in the position to be able to use my car (as my partner needed it for work each day). So my Ofsted inspector didn't need to see any paperwork and didn't include it in the inspection. However, things have changed now and said partner cycles to work (his endeavour to get fit and lose weight!) and I have my car again. I did email Ofsted about it, but I've not had a reply to date. Can any of you advise me as to how I go about changing this? I know they would need to see all the relevant docs - insurance, licence etc, but do they have to visit me again, or am I able to do it all through the post? Sorry this is such a stupid question - I should've just shown all the docs at the inspection, then it wouldn't have mattered if I was using the car or not....I feel such a doughnut! :o Especially as I had to turn a couple of mindees down cos of the distance without my little brum brum!

I have no idea what Ofsted will expect of you... sorry.

I think you need to wait for them to reply to your email.

Check your business insurance for minding is right though ...

I don't remember ever making Ofsted aware whether I was going to use my car or not.

I just got the insurance sorted and use it. The inspector checked my insurance certificate when she came because it was in my portfolio otherwise I suppose she might have just asked as a general question whethere I used the car, what precautions and arrangements I take, etc.

I'm not sure why you have to let Ofsted know but I might be being dim!

i would say you will need sort insurance out - make sure it is childminding purpose on it,

ring ofsted explain you now can use car and waiting on docs to come through ... your prob have send copies or orginal ones to them, unless they come out to you to check them,

Ofsted have never asked to look at any car documentation.

You do need Class 1 business use on your car though and your insurance company should do this without charge. Ask for another schedule so that you have proof.

I dont think Ofsted need to know...
I didnt have a car at my pre- reg and I bought one when I started working. They will check your docs at your inspection.

All were up to date, but you MUSt have Class 1 Business use for your car. Just phone up your insurance company and ask them to send you an ammended certificate. You shouldn't be charged, but if you are, you'll have to pay it unless you kick up a stink and threaten to leave etc!

When you have your next inspection, make sure your documents are to hand in case you are asked for them.

just business insurence and ploicies on safety seats etc useually work well plus persmission slips too.
