I'm not sure if my renewal will be due in October, which is 12 months after I was approved by ofsted and therefore the date on my certificate of registration. Or is it due 12 months after I first paid the fee during the application process? For me that would be July but I couldn't mind until the October.

Ofsted will send you a reminder for your payment...it usually comes well in advance of your renewal date
You will also have the option to pay by Direct Debit in future if you wish
