Hi,
I am in the process of becoming a childminder and becoming concerned with the Ofsted inspection. I'm confident that my property is safe and I am prepared with documents etc but I'm not sure what they expect in regards to you toys....

I have a 17 month old boy with lots of toys and I have kept a lot I his baby toys so I have lots but mainly 'boyish'. I am planing on getting some other bits including boy/girl dolls and a buggy and tea set and play food.
I am hoping to just childmind 1 child under 2 and will obviously have enough toys for that age, but do ofsted expect to see that you a range of toys 0-5 even if they are not going to be needed straight away?

Ofsted will not be looking for toys for any child other than the ones you have on the day of inspection, and a knowledge of what migt be suitable for other ages.

They like to see 'open ended resources'- so blocks, boxes, play silks, treasure baskets, pine cones, tubes, balls etc- stuff that children can use their imagination to create their own play, rather than 'closed' toys with a single pre-defined use.

Don't worry about 'boyish', in fact we should not be applying a gender stereotype to anything so I'd just go with what you have and maybe a couple of core pieces like a doll and buggy/trolley, open-ended resources, and then just see what the children you get like. I have found all I need at charity shops.
