Hi, Im getting everything ready for my pre reg visit and have a question When the inspector comes to your home do you have to have your pli certificate ready to show them. I know you need It for when you start childminding but do they actually have to see it on the pre reg visit. Thank you

No, you don't need it for pre-reg visit - you can't get it until you are registered.

Good luck! Hope it goes well :clapping:

When my inspector rang me for my pre reg she questioned on wether I had my public liability to which I said no she told me I had to get it before she came as she would need to see it in place before she allowed me to become working as a childminder.

It's only when I started reading everyone posts on here that you didn't need it and I was told I didn't need it on my childminding course I got annoyed. I ended up having my public liability six weeks before any children started with me, what a waste!

Why can't you get it until your registered? I got mine 2 months before and was asked to see it at pre reg

My Mrs O insisted on me having it before my pre-reg.

Mrs O wanted to see it for me but I had been told NOT to get it, as at the time the local authority arranged our first year as part of their start up grant. She was fine when I explained that and I showed I definitely knew I had to have it!

My pre reg didn't ask to see it, I got mine after visit, I had taken out insurance but certificate arrived after, but I'm not sure that was right thing to do.

It did cross my mind at the time, what if I don't pass this pre registration? I can't see why you can't get it until after the visit as you are not technically a childminder until you have been approved by them...??! X

Once again this issue, like many others, is subject to the inspectors' expectations...some want to see it some don't
Are there no guidelines in Ofsted documents that say exactly what is required?

Cms rarely fail a pre reg...you may need some issues that need addressing and reporting to the visiting inspector.

I would have thought the insurance company is the one to advise you best....do they issue a certificate before registration or do they prefer a cm to be fully registered first?

Once that is established then the certificate can be obtained and displayed somewhere visible to the inspector which she will see during her visit.
