Hey been pondering if becoming codp would work for me.
Has anyone done it? Any advice?
What's the differences between codp and childminders and would I need planning permission?

This is the Ofsted fact sheet that explains the differences:

Planning permission would depend on your local council but many now seem to want you to go for Planning permission if you are caring for more than 6 children and are newly registering.
A childminder near here had to apply for a certificate of lawful use as she had been minding for more than 10 years and looked after more than 6 children (granted on historical basis) If I wanted to mind more then 6 then I would have to apply for change of use as I registered after the planning rules changed:rolleyes:. Same applies for more than one childminder or an assistant working from the same premises

When did the rules change? I have one assistant and thinking of having another one working with me. Ofsted said to me, it was ok to work with 2 or 1 and another childminder. So 3 altogether. What about planning permission, what reason would I not get it apart from the space, which I will have lots of. Thank You for any advice

Planning permission has nothing to do with Ofsted its down to the local authorities. It can be costly to apply for and certain las do have restrictions of no more than 6 under 8 at anytime.
Its not just due to space in your house its about the impact on your neighbours, parking, noise levels etc etc.
You need to contact your la for more information

Thank You for that, I do have property in the middle of a field with no one around but that's taken a little time to convert. I was looking at doing something sooner, will get in touch with LA.

A property in a middle of a field sounds divine :)

It depends on your LA. The example was my own LA.
