Hi all
Wondering if you can help, if I want to register an assistant, what do I have to do? Would this mean I can have an extra child as long as I don't exceed 6 under 8?
I have 2 of my own under 5 so only have space for one more.
I have signed up a little boy two afternoons a week who is 3 but I've had enquiry for a temp contract until December. Which means I will be over those two afternoons for 5 hours. If I had an assistant would that be ok as I only have 2 over 5?

If you had an assistant all 6 can be under 5. So yes it would be OK

When you have an assistant, you can possibly increase your ratios according to how large your floorspace is. There is a formula but I don't know offhand what it is. In theory, you could have 6 under 5's plus 6 under 8's when working with an assistant
Depending where you live there may be issues with planning permission if you go over a certain number of children though - the same goes with insurance, so best to check if you do...

It would just be for those 2 afternoons and I would have 6 all together. 4 under and 2 over

How do I go about registering them?

There is an EY2 form in the free resources section above. You fill it out and send it to Ofsted. They will do a DBS check and let both of you know when she is registered - it doesn't take too long :)

Brilliant thank you. It's not dependant on the length of time you have been minding does it?

No. I was told by Ofsted my assistant could start working before her check came through and before she had done a First Aid just as long as she is not left alone with the children.

That's good to know, as there will be a cross over of 2 hours do I don't think assistant would be left alone a all
