Hiah
I've only been registered since March, and currently only have school children on my books, so am I right in thinking that I am not in danger of Ofsted turning up at any point, they'll call and ask if I have any early years and I'll say no so they'll go away and try again - is that correct?
I don't have much paperwork for these mindees that I do have - the forms (contracts, accident book, attendance register), but nothing else really - I don't normally have them for longer than 2 hours at a time. Is that ok? Should I be doing planning a bit more? I will be having one of them for a couple of full days every week in the summer so I was thinking of doing some planning for that.
Also same is true for observations - I haven't done any yet, should I be?
Thanks
Jessica
For school age children I would probably do a scrapbook of some kind but not formal observations and assessments. I might also try and get some info from their schools to see what they are doing, how they are getting on etc.
Ofsted will ring you about 6 months after you are registered to see what children you have. If you have no early years children they will probably postpone but not indefinitely.
Is it just that you haven't found any EY children or have you just decided not to take any on at the moment?

At the time I got the call, I had no EYFS children, only after school.
I do a scrapbook, and it's lovely to be able to see how far the schoolies have come, even in the past year, but I don't do formal obs for them.
When I got EYFS children, I did contact ofsted to let them know, and have done several times since
I'm still waiting

I think they will give you the chance to get eyfs children before coming out to you. However they will have to inspect you eventually. They can do an inspection with no children on the roll where you wouldnt get a grading :-)

Thanks for the replies, good, glad I seem to have understood things correctly!
I went on a course last night (about tax for childminder etc) and quizzed the facilitators there, they thought the same so yeah I will try to relax a little.
No I'm not really looking for EY children just now, I'm letting the CM build up gradually, I was already minding my friend's 2 so now they pay, I've got another mindee, one starting in Sept, possibly a couple over the summer, but there's a chance in Nov I'll have a reception child and his younger brother who will be just over a year old for a couple of days a week, I'm meeting the parents Monday.
At the moment there's not a massive demand for EY minding, and I'd rather mind children when my 4 are here too and they're all at school now, although it would be nice to have at least someone on the EYFS so I can get a grading at some point.
The facilitators last night suggested giving ownership of the scrapbooks to the children which I thought was a good idea, I'll get my head around that asap (I'm still unpacking from Glastonbury!).

I got a missed call yesterday and I've just looked it up and it was Tribal, erk!
Nothing's changed however, at the moment I have 3 children - one is 11 years old, one is 6 and one is 5 (who is just going into year 1).
I will however have a newbie starting who is about to start school. For the first 3 weeks of school she will only be part time at school (as that is all school offers for reception starters in the village). I'm not expected to start her on the EYFS for these few weeks am I? She'll be with me for only a few hours a week.
Thanks again

Me too. I'm still waiting for my first graded inspection despite contacting Ofsted several times. They'll probably call in September when I'm trying to settle in my newbies!
