Hi Guys,

I have an ofsted pre reg inspection tomorrow. I am filling in the pre reg booklet and I am stuck on some questions. I will be grateful for any help I get.

How will you assess risks and keep children safe when they are away from your premises, for example on outings?- All I can think of is supervision and risk assessment. What else can I do?

How do you intend to evaluate your service once it has started? Who will you involve in this? How will you use what your evaluation tells you? All I can think of is the SEF. I dont know how to answer this question!

How will you keep the children safe indoors? How will you enable children to become independent and still keep themselves safe? All i wrote was to provide age appropriate activities, make sure there are safety locks and gates, continuous supervision and do risk assessments.

How will you develop children's understanding about healthy eating and the importance of exercise and fresh air? All I can of is reading books on this topic and involving them in food shopping and cooking.

How will you encourage children to make good relationships with adults and their peers? How will you enable children to learn about valuing each other and understanding and respecting other cultures and beliefs?

How will you support a child for whom english is an additional language but has a good understanding of English and speaks English well?

How will you gather and evaluate parent's views of childminding service and how will you use these views to reflect on what you offer in your childminding service?

I know its a long list but I need help desperately, pleease!

Outings: sounds good, could also add talking with older children about stranger danger and the importance of staying close to you
Evaluation: this forum :) parent questionnaires? Ask the children
Safe indoors: sounds good
Healthy eating etc.: will you provide outdoor play?
Good relationships: model these yourself
Other cultures and beliefs: celebrate festivals, use books
EAL: find resources using their first language
Parent's views:questionnaires, how else will you communicate with them?

Good luck! I found the anticipation far worse than the reality.

Just that, but explain a but more about the type of stuff you'll be assessing, ans the fibrils you'll use e.g. safety reins, telephone numbers on wristbands

How do you intend to evaluate your service once it has started? Who will you involve in this? How will you use what your evaluation tells you? All I can think of is the SEF. I dont know how to answer this question! You'll summarise in your sef. You'll ask parents, the children,, other childminders, your do. You'll make changes to your provision based on what you find out

Leading by example, so get them out each day, play games where you can discuss food, take them to super market, provide a healthy menu, advise parents if packed lunches are provided

How will you encourage children to make good relationships with adults and their peers? How will you enable children to learn about valuing each other and understanding and respecting other cultures and beliefs? Teach then respect all round, challenge bad comments made by adults around you, make sure you have diverse books from the library

How will you support a child for whom english is an additional language but has a good understanding of English and speaks English well?

How will you gather and evaluate parent's views of childminding service and how will you use these views to reflect on what you offer in your childminding service? Questionaires? Informal chats, formal review meetings

I know its a long list but I need help desperately, pleease!

Hope that helps, and good luck!

How about expanding. Using reins, educating the children on stranger danger, road safety. Maybe check the Internet if going to a specific place to help fill in your risk assessment. Etc etc

How do you intend to evaluate your service once it has started? Who will you involve in this? How will you use what your evaluation tells you? All I can think of is the SEF. I dont know how to answer this question!

You can think about auditing your business to make sure you comply with, for example, the EYFS. Involve parents mainly but ask colleagues, development officer etc. Use your evaluation to improve your setting!

How will you keep the children safe indoors? How will you enable children to become independent and still keep themselves safe? All i wrote was to provide age appropriate activities, make sure there are safety locks and gates, continuous supervision and do risk assessments.

Safety equipment, encourage children to tidy up toys, lock front door etc etc. It is important to allow children to engage in risky play as it is their right to try new things, but your duty of care means you must risk assess risky play to avoid injury.

How will you develop children's understanding about healthy eating and the importance of exercise and fresh air? All I can of is reading books on this topic and involving them in food shopping and cooking.

That's pretty good!

How will you encourage children to make good relationships with adults and their peers? How will you enable children to learn about valuing each other and understanding and respecting other cultures and beliefs?

Be a good role model. Allow children to be around other children. Observe how they act. Involve all children in special days e.g. Religious. Provide resources; posters, toys etc

How will you support a child for whom english is an additional language but has a good understanding of English and speaks English well?

Involve them in every activity you do. Their understanding will improve just by talking to them and getting the children together to talk together in an activity. Provide reading resources, posters etc

How will you gather and evaluate parent's views of childminding service and how will you use these views to reflect on what you offer in your childminding service?

Parent feedback form is the main one. Ask if there is anything you can do to improve your setting for their child and then do your best to accommodate these.

I know its a long list but I need help desperately, pleease!

Hope this helps! :D
