Hi all! I'm a very new childminder (2weeks registered but with 2 kiddies already) and a little overwhelmed! I've been told I will recieve my 1st inspection within 6 months and im wondering what kind of thing they will be looking at as i want to be prepared from day one. I do daily diaries and just starting to do learning journals but don't actually plan except for the next day depending on how the kiddies are feeling. Any help and advice would be great, thanks all :o

Paperwork is key to many ofsted inspectors so I would get some basic planning in place. It could be monthly to save yourself too much work. You don't have to stick to planning completely as going with the children's interests last minute is more important in my eyes but just something there to show evidence of planning would be good. It could even be as simple as a brainstorm of planning ideas for the month with the area/s of the eyfs they support

Oh and when you plan following a childs interests it might be good to write it in learning journals to say how it went

The op has posted this in CSSIW so they have different procedures and paperwork to us in England.

CSSIW want to see how you are coping. They now run 2 types of inspection and alternate them every 2 years. One looks at paperwork and the other is care given to children. I don't know which you will get first.

Make sure that you have your paperwork up to date and that you are actually doing what you said you were on you SAF inspection papers - ie if you said you have a daily health and safety check list make sure you do it (I don't I visually check everything). Make sure that you can show that you are planning a variety of activites for the children through photos, daily diaries, Plans etc. Make sure that you have a record of times of arrivals, departures, medication forms, accident forms etc

I have not had an inspection under these new inspections mine is due by November.
