My sibling mindees are leaving very soon, and I have no-one signed up to replace them yet. My first grading inspection is due in July, and I'm thinking that I may have children that haven't been with me long at all, so their journals won't show much evidence of me supporting their learning & development etc.

Would Ofsted look at my ex-mindees journals as well? (If their parent gave me written permission to retain copies for that purpose.)

I've read some inspection threads where people have said the inspector HAS wanted to see old learning journals for people in your position but normally it is only children currently in your care. If you don't have any children you should inform Ofsted as they will probably postpone.

Obviously learning journals are property of parents and you will have to give them to them when mindees leave. You will have to get parent's permission to get a COPY of them.

They normally want to see evidence of the children in your care at the time of your inspection making good progress.

Ah well, hopefully either a) someone will start soon so I have time to build up some evidence, or b) no-one will start until my two teacher's children begin in September and I can postpone Ofsted 'til then! :thumbsup:

I did copy a LJ with parental permission as I was moving 2 yrs ago & expecting an inspection. and was pretty sure I wouldn't have had mindees very long.

I wanted to be able to demonstrate what I did/how I did my LJ.

Now have got current mindees & LJ s & still no inspection!

If I were in your position I'd photocopy bits from existing Lj with parents permission to keep in case you feel you do need to present more evidence of the way you work at inspection.

Thanks :) I guess if their Mum doesn't mind giving written permission for me to keep copies, then I can have them on hand just in case they will be useful and the particular inspector is ok with it. :thumbsup:

If Ofsted ring and you have no early years children I would say that and delay your inspection as you cannot get higher than a satisfactory with no early years children anyway....

I've got an inspection overdue and my only ey child is due to leave me in the next few months. Can Ofsted insist on visiting even if you have no ey children?
