Your policies and procedures are very important as they explain how you manage your business to parents.

If you look at footnote 5 in this document you will see that they are required by the Childcare Register -

Ofsted | Factsheet: childcare - Records, policies and notification requirements of the Early Years Register (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/factsheet-childcare-records-policies-and-notification-requirements-of-early-years-register)

What the inspector was probably trying to do was to make sure your friend understood her policies and procedures fully and was able to implement them in practice.

You'd be surprised how many people print general policies from websites, put them in a folder and never even read them.

Hth :D

I had my inspection yesterday. Mrs O leafed through my Policies & Procedures, I assume just checking for the mandatory stuff but she actually told me that their emphasis is on learning and development. Some childminder's have reams of Policies and Procedures and it could take the inspector forever to go through each and every one so much quicker and simpler to ask the CM directly what they do.
