Hi I have my pre registration visit on Friday morning and I thought you didn't need to get your public liability insurance until after you had been told everything was ok and your registered but now I'm kind of thinking I won't get registered If I dnt have public liability insurance what do I do as I don't have long x

No mine was put in place afterwards, my local authority lady came out a week after my pre-reg and signed me off and our authority kindly give us the first year of insurance so I had to wait till then. You'll need to wait a couple of weeks for your Ofsted certificate to come through, so there's time.
Good luck!

Don't get it until you've got your certificate, or you take on any mindees. You don't wont to be paying for time that you aren't using it

Don't know if areas are different but I had Pre reg couple weeks ago she went throu all my paper work and documents and told me that EVERY thing must now be in place as if you were minding a child the next day. Personally I wouldn't risk it and I don't know about others but with mm you can print off when u buy online. Good luck :-)

EYFS Statutory Framework says:-
3.62 Providers must carry public liability insurance.
If the inspector says you need PLI at pre-reg stage, tell her you are not (yet) a registered provider. You will have PLI when you are a registered provider. Those are the rules and your inspector cannot change them to suit her/his opinion no matter what. She's welcome to try failing you on those grounds, since the regulations and precedent of 1000's of current CM will support your successful appeal.

PLI can be sorted out in a single phone call, within minutes.
I wasn't expected to have it at pre-reg, but I did have a huge checklist on my whiteboard with it listed as an action point. Which was fine for Mrs O.

When i had my pre reg, the inspector rang me a few days before to check i had everything in place to show her, ID, police checks, first aid etc. then she mentioned public liability.
i mentioned that I had been told I didn't need that til I had children, she said no they are now asking to see the certificate before otherwise they cannot register you.
I'm a bit annoyed as my pre reg was almost three weeks ago and my first mindee doesn't start for another 2 weeks, but I already have my insurance.

Interesting Miss Freckles - yet another example of inconsistency from Ofsted :-/
My LA said I should organise PLI ASAP after registration but show awareness of it at my pre-reg inspection. I was not asked to show my certificate to Mrs O.
I wish they would make up their mind about this and other issues. So annoying.

My pli was organised through NCMA. They did it after my pre reg but back dated it to the date showing on my certificate. As they are 'the professionals' I would hope that this is correct.
So on these grounds I would say you shouldn't need it until you are ready to start.

This raises the obvious question of why on Earth an insurance company would agree to insure anyone to legally mind children before they are legally permitted to do so.
