I am not due an inspection for another 9 months or so but since my last inspection I have moved house and taken on an assistant so I am thinking it will be on time if not before! My assistant is getting anxious about what she will be asked by the inspector. She is great and knows her stuff (clued up on safeguarding, my policies, knows children well and is getting there with EYFS and obs) but I would be grateful if anyone with experience of an inspection with an assistant could tell me what it was like from the assistants point of view.

What would you do if parents arrive with medication? What would you do if you notice a mark on a child? How would you react if a child says Boris hit them? They are usually asked lots of safeguarding questions.

You should work through the EYFS and make sure you have evidence for all the 'assistant' and 'staff' requirements.

I was asked at my last inspection, Feb this year, about what checks and information I gathered prior to them being employed - in relation to my assistants and their family, how and what I do in regards to regular 'staff' meetings and staff appraisals and how I evidence this.
How do I monitor their attendance, do I have written permission from parents to leave them with assistants for any length of time, car insurance details etc.
How do I monitor their attendance at courses, when their first aid and safeguarding training are due for renewal. Are they a key worker for any children?
At this inspection I did not have any assistants working with me so I can't say what they would ask, however last time my assistant was asked about safeguarding and how we share information about children. She was also asked about the children generally and as a key person for one of the children present where they were in relation to EYFS.
This time the emphasis was on how I monitor their performance.
Hope this helps, both my assistants are also childminders in their own right, so know what to expect.
