Well thanks everyone for your support. I have had so much support from this forum!
I managed to get GOOD on my inspection this morning.
I have read so much good feedback on others' inspections and I will add my two-pennyworth as well:
The inspector turned up dead on 10 o'clock, she showed her I.D. and I made sure I had a good look. The children came to the door and I introduced them. She signed my visitor's book and sat down, explaining that she would ask questions and have a look at my paperwork but asked that I carry on as normal.
As we normally go to a play group in the morning, I tried to keep things as normal as possible and did our normal routine as if we were at play group. We had some free play and I interacted with the children as they played and I talked to them about what they were doing and reminded them to play nicely and share. The eldest lead this nicely onto sing time as she selected a CD and put it on herself. She and my DS sang and danced around and my 1yo clapped and joined in. The inspector seemed to like this as it showed the children thinking for themselves-I didn't say it was sing time.
I asked the children to wash their hands prior to snack time, explaining why we should wash our hands (the inspector typed furiously at this point!). I had snack already prepared, which saved time in the kitchen. I used a plate which has a face on it and arranged strawberries for hair and grapes for the eyes, nose, mouth and chin. The children loved this and ate their snack because I had tried to make it fun.
We made some play-doh after snack as I wanted to involve all the children, the eldest two making the play doh and all three playing with it. This went down really well.
I changed the LO's nappy using disposable gloves and nappy bag and made sure I mentioned it to her in case she didn't notice.
I mentioned to the eldest that if she sneezes she should wash her hands and I remembered hand washing throughout the whole inspection except for before lunch (slapped wrist!). I'm normally so regimented about it but amoungst everything else and trying to answer questions it slipped my mind until halfway through lunch, but she noticed, damn!
For lunch (which was also already prepared), I did wraps with ham and cheese with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber. I put all the ingredients in seperate bowls and asked the children to make healthy choices and make their own wraps. This went down well with the inspector.
The only other thing the inspector mentioned was having something on the door to prevent trapped fingers. Annoyingly. I do have something for the door but forgot to put it on.
All in all she was impressed and I'm happy to get GOOD.
I hope this will help other people!
