There seem to have been a rash of these recently, but I remember how much I wanted to read up on other's experiences before mine, so here goes!
She arrived as expected and showed her id before I had to ask for it.
I made her a cuppa whilst introducing the tribe who all thought the visitor was exciting!
I settled her at the table and carried on playing with the children. She chatted away, making me feel very comfortable, to the point where I honestly forgot I was being inspected and just enjoyed the opportunity to talk freely about the children! She was very definately a human, very friendly and very professional.
I left out all sorts of info, learning journeys, risk assessments etc, but forgot some bits that I only remembered when she asked a question and it jogged my memory.
She commented on my SEF (thank you Sarah!) and said it was very comprehensive (a polite way of saying too long?!).
I had one pick up which was reasonable but reflected the short duration of the visit - had she been here longer she'd have seen she didn't need to say what she said, but I can't argue with her because she worded it nicely enough.
The report was fascinating to read. She'd noticed stuff I hadn't even registered, like how I responded to the children's requests.
I didn't get asked about equality and diversity or parent partnership or working with the school. Whether this was because I'd covered it in my SEF and/or she'd seen evidence in may paperwork I'll never know.
All in all, whilst I'm thrilled with my "goods" I feel a bit cheated! It does seem unfair that seven months hard work is summed up in only a few paragraphs! I want a certificate to frame or something!!! She also gave me the "the grade reflects the length of time you've been minding" statement and said that it mirrored my own self evaluation. I wonder now, whether if I'd been comfortable with grading myself as Outstanding she might have too... but I'd thought long and hard about that and wasn't happy to do this - yet!
PS - sorry this seems a bit long too, rather like my SEF!
