Hi Bex

First of all, don't panic! The pre-registration is more to help you and make sure you are aware of what needs to be in place. If you look in Free Resources tab above there is a pre-registration document that really helped me. I didn't have certain things in place (eg. safety gate, fire blanket) when I had mine but I made a list of everything I was planning to buy etc and just showed the inspector my list. Mine was very friendly and put me totally at ease. Easier said than done to say not worry but good luck  x

You should also go through the question booklet in the Ofsted application pack and answer them as well as possible. You do not need to know them off by heart but a good knowledge is essential as you will find it hard flicking through the answers as the questions are being fired at you! I assume you have risk assessments as well and any other safety equipment like stair gates, cupboard locks as you see fit.

Good luck

The pre reg visit is also an opportunity to ask ofsted their advice. I asked a couple of questions about things i wanted to put into place and asked mrs o's opinion. I feel with some inspectors things like that help because you dont come across as knowing it all before you start and also that you value their knowledge :-)

At mine, she was very helpful, just a general chat, quite informal, she had a cuppa, had a nosey around, looked at the play room and resouces, admired our outdoor area and garden, she then looked thru' policies carefully and gave lots of very helpful tips and advice on things they like to see. Useful to have a notebook ready ;) Good Luck xx

Mine was lovely... I'd fenced off a bit of garden in a way I thought was safe. She said that it would be easy for a child to climb up. Couldn't see it myself as DD not much of a climber and her friends were all girls so climbing not their thing so much. However I now have a son and minded boys as can now see her point. She advised me of some screening she'd seen other childminders use so was really helpful.

They are not there to trip you up, so don't worry.
