after you've changed a baby's nappy. You obviously need to dispose of the nappy and wash your hands. I normally leave the baby where I know they are safe and very quickly rush out of the room to do this. Is this acceptable or would Ofsted expect you to take the baby with you?

It depends on the age of the baby & which other children I have here.
I keep a buggy or baby car seat handy, so if I need to pop to the bin, wash my hands or nip to the loo I can strap the baby in & know they are safe. If it's a little baby who I know isn't going to go anywhere I leave them on a play mat on the floor. If there are older children here who are likely to fall on/tread on a baby lying on the floor, I will put the baby in the buggy or carseat.
It's all about judging the situation based on the children you have with you at the time, but Ofsted don't expect you to take the baby with you at all times.

i always wash my hands with a babywipe as soon as ive finished the nappy then that goes in the bag too,got hand sanitiser gel on the shelf in livingroom for after the baby wipe,no need to leave baby or handle baby with anything nasty still on fingers (eeewwww)then we pop to bin together.

I have a seperate bin for nappies which when Im working is kept just outside back door. I change nappy, put nappy in nappy sack, pop it in bin, (I can see and or hear the los at all times) then use antibac gel on hands before I touch anything or anyone. hth x

I take baby and wash both.of.our hands. I have boys who can't resist investigating their bits whilst being changed, though!
