I am very confused and would like some advice:

I childmind a 4 year old girl after nursery 3 days a week. On 2 of those days she is at my house for about 45 minutes and on the third day she is with me for about 2 hours. Do I need to keep a learning journey for her? She obviously has one a nursery and on my revised EYFS course we were told only the child's main provider has to keep one, but other people have said everyone who cares for a child within the EYFS age range needs to keep a learning journey? Can anyone clear this up for me? Thank you.

The main provider will have a bigger, fatter learning journey for the child because they see her more!

I suggest for a part timer that you do a very simple Learning Journey with a focus on her routine and notes when she does something new, different etc.

Where possible include information from her other setting - and home of course.

Hth :D

Talk to the nursery and ask if they can give you copies of the observations of little ones big wow moments at nursery and offer to do the same back, I do that with one of mine it works really well especially when it comes to writing up summative assessments which I write because he is with me most.

Hi!

I am in a very similar position and am interested in what responses you get for this. I look after a 3 yo and 6 yo and have them 7:15am-9am 3 days a week, included in this is giving them breakfast and leaving for school for 8am which only leaves us about 20 mins of playing?!!

The best way to cover this is to have a routine sheet - maybe photos of the child eating a healthy breakfast, washing hands, helping to prepare the play area for during the day etc etc...

Then when the child does something different / exciting / new you can note it as an observation.

Also work closely with parents and chat about what the child is doing at home at the other setting - those types of comments make excellent observations too! :D
