My fridge freezer has stopped working. I have no mindees at present but am advertising for my first mindees. Do I need to inform Ofsted that my freezer has broke and will this now prevent me from taking on children??

No and why on earth would it stop you taking children? It is not a condition of your registration that you have a freezer.

Just deal with it the way you want to, get rid of any spoiled food, get rid of the freezer any buy and stock a new one if you want to.!!

Ofsted are there to inspect and regulate the business we run with regard to the welfare of the children in our care. They are not interested in our own home lives and how we run them as long as it does not endanger the children in our care.

As previously said, this wouldn't be an Ofsted problem - but if you are registered with Environmental Health, you may want to document the fact that your fridge/freezer broke down and record what you did with the fresh or frozen food (you don't have to notify them - just record it somewhere), if you intend providing meals for any mindees that come along soon.

I would go to a local independent supplier, choose a replacement and see if they can deliver it today - your fresh stuff in fridge may have to be thrown out (depending on when fridge broke) but providing you haven't kept opening the freezer part, the meat in there will probably be ok - if in doubt cook the meat and refreeze (don't take give to future mindees). You can just take out the bread and use it, use stuff like Pizza for tea today (probably says best from frozen but will be ok) ice-cream throw away.

Hope you manage to save most things - can you borrow space in a friend or neighbours freezer?

Why on earth do you think you would need to inform OFSTED ( not a rhetorical question, I genuinely want to know why you think they'd be interested!!)

Maybe this newly registered person thinks that Ofsted have control of everything and everyone (like they actually think they do), hopefully she will continue to ask here for advice first, in spite of rather blunt replies!

We read so many posts that suggest the smallest thing needs to be reported to Ofsted and Lovechildcare is new and obviously doesnt want to get into trouble and was just checking they were ok with what happened.

Isnt that what we are here for, to offer support and help

Lovechildcare - I hope you will continue to post and ask for help x

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as harsh but was genuinely interested.
I hear so many ridiculous tales of people attending training or having development workers visit, and then being told a whole host of frankly stupid things that they should be doing.
I wanted to know if the op had been misinformed that her house had to be ready to receive half a dozen mindees at any moment with everything set up ready!
maybe she thinks you have to write down the fridge temp. every day from when you are registered and she would be pulled up in the future if there was a gap?...
As I say, wasn't trying to be nasty, wanted to know if some idiot had given her / him 800 pages of so called rules and regulations
