Hi - I have a few Q's about 1st inspections! On my reg certificate it says 5th Dec so I am assuming I should recieve call any day now!)
So here are my Q's:
1) How close to the 6 mth mark do they call- can it be more like 7 or 8mths after registering?
2) If they offer a week where I have loads of abnormal things happening eg. Own Kids sports days, own kids pre school visits can I ask them not to come as childminding is going to be very bitty!
3) I have been doing all my planning/ observations to EYFS - will that be ok if they come before September? (they would have to come before 18th July or else September as after 18th July I have no kids as only do termtime!)
Thanks!
Gemma

You can't pick and choose as such but you can say when you are busy / available...
It's a bit patchy when they come out - depends on where you live. Your local development officer might have more idea!
Have a nosey through the 'inspection tips' threads for ideas for getting yourself ready! :D

I registered last August and still haven't had my first inspection, so don't panic.
When they do ring, just explain that you only work term times, then they will re-arrange to come when you have children there.

I got my certificate beginning of feb and had my inspection the other week, was surprised as it had only been 4 mths since registration, still waiting for my report to be published I been looking on ofsted everyday since they been:). My mate a few streets away had hers this week and she been registered over a year, so just depends on your inspector I think.

I'm term time only too at the moment and also approaching the 6 month mark... was advised by my support childminder to say I'm busy if she wants to see me when I'm not minding or else you can only get 'satisfactory' at the most - and I want more than that!! :D

I think its only if you don't have any children on your books after the 2nd time they call to do your inspection - so you'd be approaching being registered 12 months before they would only grade you satisfactory.
You will be asked when they call if you have children on your books so if you mind term time only they would arrange to call back after the holidays.
If i'm wrong i'm sure somebody will correct me :)

I was registered in Feb and had my inspection in May.
With regards to observations, I do both EYFS and B23 as I wanted to cover all areas just in case! However, my inspector said she'd have been happy with EYFS obs only as it's a way of proving you are observing the children. I would contact Ofsted to find out what they're looking for with regards to obs as all areas are different as are inspectors!
Best of luck to you.
